Pls read before u up your dose of Zoloft

Dr recommended Z for my depression 3 years ago and took 200mg for most after working my way up. I was  Taking over a family business and 3 family members suffering with a crippling disease one being my daughter who had also struggled with a prescribed  addiction.  Did I need relief?  YES.  Did it help?  YES.  I would highly recommend never taking this dose. I don't struggle with a weight problem never had to diet, however I gained over 30lbs the last 3 years. I am in my 40's and started having the worst night sweats ever. I would change my jammies 2-3 times during the night. All I could think of was I was entering menopause. WRONG. I believe this worsened my depression the longer I took this. Maybe it wasn't the right drug for me as I've read. I didn't have a care in the world. Didn't care about paying bills, myself or anything.  My husband was always asking me what's wrong u act different. U don't take care of things like u use to.  Hmmmm. Some things went south real fAst and I weaned off. Be careful with this. It's not over night and not over a month time. I started looking at blogs and my feelings and symptoms were spot on with others. Night sweats not caring about anything and an instant 20lb weight gain. Not just from one person but several. Many are very disturbed that these side effects are not being shared by our providers. This has a two wk shelf life but is in your body for up to 3 months. The day I was off Zoloft I have not had one night sweat. NONE.  I am just now losing the weight I have gained very quickly. Like I said it could be the large dose I was taking for 3 years.  The higher the dose and the longer u are taking this the longer it will take to wean off.

This was my experience and I wish I could remember the blog I found with all the bad side effects to share with u all.

47 here and like I said I've never had a weight issue. I fully blame on Zoloft. Especially the night sweats. Have not had one since I quit.

I'm like a balloon on this med . I eat normal but gain weight so fast . I don't know what to do as I'm still on it ?!

I was the same way and always bloated. Once finished weaning and completely off. It took about a month but I lost about 7lbs then was stuck. This takes 3 months to be completely out of your body as now I'm dropping quite quickly but has taken 4 months since I quit. I think at any dose your on with this specific drug u will not lose. That's my experience tho. Have u tried Lexapro? I know a few on this one and have not had any issues with Wright gain. I feel for you!

I craved sweets on Zoloft, that was my problem.  I would eat a bag of ju- jubes at a ditting didn't have any will power!   I have lost but still have 20 to go.   I go to the treadmill 3 times per week for 45 mnutes, lift weights etc., however my metabolism has also slowed down with age uinfortunately!

I have a friend who has been on Z for 20 years, she's gained 60 lbs!!!  She won't exercise and doesn't seem to care anymore.  She says she'd rather feel well psychogically.  Cholestrol is high, she's prediabetic, which probably is in part to the weight gain.  I developed high blood pressure on Z as well, and still on meds, sigh!

This was my first time as well. Like I said it helped me thru but then made me worse about not caring about anything. I love anything sweet too. It almost felt as if it increased that along with the weight gain🙁

I feel ya! I didn't have to want to even push myself tho. Now that I'm off I care more...

I couldn't lose an ounce while in it but I could gain 2 lbs overnight.

At 47 I thought that was my problem too... Slow metabolism. But it's the Zoloft pretty sure. I would still be 30lbs heavy if I didn't stop. I didn't care about a thing. I thought I was doing ok but now I see a big difference in myself. I care!

I thought during wearing off I would lose more than I did 5-6lbs. But I didn't. It's taken about 3 months completely off to notice a loss.

200 to 150 for about 2 weeks. Then 150 to 100 to 125 every other night for about a month. Then 100 mg for about 3 weeks then 100 and 75 every other night. And so on. Yes I had bad symptoms at the very end. When I got down to the 50/25 every other night for a month I did 25 every night then I'd take 25 every other night. This was what I did and took about 3 months. I highly recommend asking your doc to write you a weaning schedule. I had one at one time and misplaced it. I went with how my body was feeling. Good luck. It's not easy.

Hi, I know this is an old post now but I came across it just today as I want to come off 150mg sertraline. I've been on it for 3 years now and have put on over 20 lbs. i also relate to the night sweats. I never had them until i started taking this and didnt even twig until reading your post. Since the beginning of this week I have reduced my dose by 25mg to 125mgs and i am experiencing a lot of nausea. I really need to come off it and want the nausea to stop just so i can get back into my exercise and get this weight off. I need to lose the weight to feel better about myself. I feel horrible at 205 pounds and my my husband has told me he no longer wants to be married to me cause my weight is a big issue for him. Such an jerk of a thing to do but I have to move on and do this for myself. And I think my depression had a lot to do with how poorly i felt treated by him so i'll be better off mentally living myself instead of expecting him to love me. I was just hoping you might get this message as i would really appreciate you sharing your process for getting off and what you experienced as you did. It's time for me to wake up and love myself again. Hope to hear from you.

I've come off sertraline was taking it for 4 weeks at 50mg, then upped it middle Dec to 100mg, I have in this small amount of time put on about 10lb very bloated have night sweats don't stop eating I've also missed 2 periods my joints are excruciatingly painful and my skin went very very spotty! I'm 33 I'm quite slim build and take real good care of myself so you can imagine all these side effects and above are only to name a few gave me anxiety itself 😡 When it clicked in my head 1 week ago that all these negative things were indeed the sertraline I just stopped! No weaning cold turkey! I am on day 8 having a fair few body/brain shocks a little annoying but I know they will stop my appetite is suppressing still no period and Boobs mega swollen and tender joints in legs literally preventing me from walking the pain is that bad! I made the right decision but want advice on how long it's took for the weight to drop and if anyone else's periods disappeared although still experiencing pre menstrual symptom constant lol! 😅
