I recentled posted about tapering the prednisone from 7 mg daily down to 6 mg. In previous tapers all went well. 6 mg. was not smooth...pain, stiffness got worse. Lasted 2-1/2 weeks. Took your advice and went back to 7 mg....doing ok, but not as well as I was doing becore the taper. Do I have to go higher on the prednisone and then come back down?...yuk? It has been 5 days back on 7 mg. Thanks!

Hello Kathy.just a short post untill you get a more informed post. i would go back up a few mgs till pain goes, stay for a while.then perhap. it might be worth trying 1/2 mg drops later.Good Luck.Dave

If you let in a proper flare you might need as much as 5mg more for just a few days to clear out the inflammation that has accumulated - you can drop back quite quickly though. It is a common problem getting things under control again. Be patient.

Hi Kathy, just to add to David's reply. Now you are the lower levels of preds  now is the very time to taper by Eileen's go slow and almost stop method. I do but instead of reducing by 1mg I only reduce by .5mg so in reality I'm tapering even slower. It does work so I say following this period of getting the flare under control reduce the next time by Eileen's way. Regards, christina
