To a dose that deals with the pain. In the event of a flare due to reducing too far many doctors recommend adding 5mg to the dose where the flare occurred and staying on that until the symptoms subside. If that happens in less than a couple of weeks you can go straight back to the dose before where the flare happened. If it takes longer a slower return is better - maybe reducing by a couple of mg at a time every week until you get back to where you were.

    You say "5" and "4" - do you mean 5mg and 4mg?

Just checking - some people tell us how many tablets they are taking - no indications of what dose each tablet is!!!!

Yes, so try 10mg for a few days and see how you get on. If it was only because you pushed the 4mg step you should be back to 5mg in 10 days or so at the most. But there is always the possibility that the disease activity has picked up - and then you might need more than 5mg.

Yes - I agree with Eileen. I had a blip when on 10mg and was just about to reduce by 1mg and had a massive flare and going back to 10mg didn't cut it - so went up to 12.5 but it took it's time...was about to go back to my original dose of 15mg but thing evened out - in fact yesterday was the best day I've had since end of September....quite a balancing act but you will know when you get back to the right dose for you....good luck with your hip replacement - I had a total knee replacement last November - took it's time to recover but it's brilliant now!
