Can anyone tell me if its ok to drink alcohol while taking PREDNISOLONE.

I like a beer at the weekend or to share a bottle of wine, but, can't find any thing in the Prednisolone paperwork that suggests not drinking.

No problem,  I was the "Brandy Queen" all the time I was on pred for 5 years.

Just pace yourself and if you are on any other medication, check with the Pharmacist, they know more about drugs and contra-indications than anyone else.

If it isn't Alan - I'm doomed! I'm sure that someone will pop up to say you shouldn't - but I live in Italy and it is assumed by your GP here that you drink.

"Just the one glass though" (said my lovely GP the other week) - "Glasses come in all sizes" I pointed out.  rolleyes

There are medications where drinking isn't advisable but pred doesn't have it mentioned anywhere I can find - I have looked thoroughly! What some of us have found is that heavy reds or acidic whites (depending on the person) have become rather unfriendly while on pred - pred can make your stomach a bit delicate I suppose. Now I'm at a low dose even that seems to have improved but I don't do heavy reds at all any more. just lost the taste.

Hi alanh, as all the others say, we all do it. We have enought to cope with when taking preds so a little of what you fancy certainly can do you good. f you are lucky Eileen might even send you one of her 2 gallon wine glasses (only joking Eileen). Good luck and enjoy your tipple.

Oh what fun! This is when an ole American knows to stay out of the U K discussion about alcohol. Suffice it to say I cannot taste well, I am unbalanced, should not drive and have high triglicerides on top of it all! Give me strong dark chocolates! Go Brits...I' ll take one sip for George's sister! Ann11195

I decided to stop drinking alcohol 3 weeks after I'd been prescribed Prednisolone (60 mg per day) for GCA as it increased the frequency of headaches. That coincidentally was 1 January. I wasn't a heavy drinker, perhaps a couple of glasses of wine a week or a pint of beer, but have found that at the moment keeping a very clear head has helped me come to terms with some radical life changes brought on by GCA. I'm now on 15mg Prednisolone and have recovered some of the sight in my eye.

I never had a problem with the alcohol when I had my GCA which is now into the 4th year of remission.

Horses for courses is the best way as we are all so different but still caring humans.

A Southern California wine-aholic was very happy taking Prednisone - and then the world came to an end when my rheumatologist started me on METHOTREXATE - agghhh !

No alcohol - or your liver falls off !

I even mark it on my calendar each week - this week is NA 45 - no alcohol 45 weeks ! But I am storing up all these bottles of fine California wine for when the pred hits zero and methotrexate is gone - watch out liver !!

I know quite a few people on MTX who have the occasional drink, approved of by their doctors - just never on MTX day. Mind you - it's enough to put me off every trying MTX...

I'll be in Chicago next year - shame it's so far to California wink

Yes - my rheumatologist did say OK to have the occasional 'sip' on the two days before taking MTX dose - but the "occasional" doesn't work for me - so it had to be NONE !

Anyway, if for some reason your plane is diverted to LAX from Chicago, I'll have a nice bottle of California wine ready for you at the terminal but you'll have to 'sip' it all yourself !!

What a pessimist - it's 15 months yet! China this year - now that should be interesting! Not sure about their wine credentials - which is tough when you live ina wine-producing region as I'm sure you know! But the lack of internet access will REALLY be trying...

Hello Eileen...I had my first Bowen therapy today. V good and she said I may notice differences up to four days later. I shall keep a record of how I feel.

Thank you for mentioning this. Will let you know.

You're right - 15 months and I'll have tapered from 5 mg in half mgs per month increments plus a couple of slowdowns or staying at an increment level for a month and I'll be all done - Yippee !

So if you do end up at LAX, you'll have to share the vino !

In the meantime have a great trip to China and not too much baijiu.
