Diagnosed with Bronchitis on Christmas Eve and given Antibiotics, a week later still feeling very poorly saw Doctor again and antibiotics changed also increased my pred from 7mg to 15mg felt that perhaps I had bronchial asthma. Still coughing and feeling exhausted but a little better. I am supposed to go back to 7mg of pred tomorrow as it was supposed to be a short sharp increase. Does this sound right please?

If it were me I think I'd go via 10mg - just in case. But only for a couple of days if it works OK.

Did the doctor also send off a sputum sample to be sure his anitbiotic was right?

No he didn't unfortunately I was ill at a very busy time, the 111 out of hours Doctor came home on Christmas Eve and then on New Years Eve I was sent to an out of hours Doctor at the local hospital. I am a bit of a nuisance because I am allergic to Penicillan and erythromycin... I must say that I was treated very well both times and feel lucky that I was seen quickly.I have had PMR for 6 years plus and had at least 4 bouts of bronchitis. this time perhaps I had the Aussie Flu have certainly felt ill.

Do you have any other respiratory tract symptoms? Especially sinus problems?

My nose is running on and off but the cough and the lack of energy has been the real problem. I did have a temperature for the first couple of days but that settled. The cough us worse if I move around and when I eat.

Hi Macca the "Aussie Flu" was and still is a doosie. I got and had to go to hospital. My pred was increased from 6mg to 15mg and reduced every 5 days by 2.5mg down to 10mg. Then after that reduced by 1mg every 5 days till back to 6mg.

I took 3 different antibiotics one after the other till l thought l was Ok. Then a slight relapse again a dlight increase in pred to help breathing.

Had symptoms of sinus and a persistent cough. It took 3 months to finally be clear. I am 75. I have a friend (no PMR)and he is still receiving treatment. He did not get the benefit of pred to open up his air ways.

Hope this helps and that you feel better soon

Hi Robin, Thank you for your good wishes, I am feeling better today and actually went for a very short walk, Its a beautiful day, blue sky and sunshine but very cold. It was good to be out again after being confined for two weeks. I am not coughing so much, have finished the antibiotics and I am reducing from the 15mg of pred to 10mg. So heres hoping......
