Pmr and other symptoms

Hi, I'm fairly new to this site and found it invaluable. Was diagnosed with pmr in march 2012 thinking I had flu. Was in bed for a week couldn't move much, achy shoulders, painfully arms, hips and back. I have never had pain like it. Was put on 30mg of prednisolone but then presented with diabetes type 2 . Also I have lost 6stone in the last year, although I was overweight it's not how you want to loose it. Now I have to have a liver biopsy for two small nodes that have grown and they don't know why. Checked for cancer and all clear thank goodness!

Can I ask if anyone has a pulsing in your ears and feel it through your body, usually happens during the night time when I'm up with the pain anyway. Would be interested to hear from anyone who has had this.

    Hello Crystalcave

Pulsing in the ears can be a sign of high blood pressure and high blood pressure is one of the recorded side effects of steroids. I have experienced this "pulsing" on the odd occasion, generally in one ear and have assumed it is down to my BP.

Several years ago, Ultrasound revealed a small cyst on my liver but I was told that it was nothing to be concerned about. At the same time the operator mentioned a small gallstone as well, adding that if I experienced any pain in that area in years to come I would know what it was.

I wish you well with the liver biopsy.

Hello MrsO, thanks for that info. I do have my bp checked regular so i now know what it is. Also I've had ct and ultrasound scans and have been cleared of anything sinister but as I say I do have these two nodes on the liver which the doc reckons may be causing the pain. It's sometimes difficult to know if it's the pmr or other problems. Anyway thank you for your reply.

    Hello again Crystalcave

Yes, I agree, it is very difficult sometimes to know what is PMR pain and what might be something else - I guess it gets easier to recognise the more experienced we become along the way - for instance, it is very common to experience a few days of some steroid withdrawal pain following each reduction.

It might be wise just to get your ear problem checked out with your GP.

Thank you MrsO, I will get that checked out. Hope you are keeping well.

Crystalcave, would just like to echo Mrs O - I've had that pulsing in my ears many times and have put it down to high BP as at its worst I was diagnosed with hypertension. Haven't had it for some time now, but am down to 6.5mg steroids and BP has returned to normal.

Carolk, thank you it's so comforting to have help like this.

It's difficult to try and explain to family members and friends as they haven't experienced it.
