Pmr and travel

a couple weeks ago i posted about my post-surgical pain (which i still have, thank you very much). pre-surgery i was at 6 mg pred; per the advice of this forum, i upped my pred for 10 days which helped a little bit. now im at 6 1/2 mg and still struggling. at night my feet ache in bed, in the mornings my thighs are more sore than usual, it seems like the least little thing wears me out, even more than it usually does. surgeon gave me flagyl to help with the healing--im on day 8. the afternoons are better in terms of pmr stuff but im never pain free, i never was. add on the post-surgical pain and well, its insult to injury.
oh, yeah, 2 months ago i had MOHS surgery on my temple with 18 stitches. it is still very sore and tender and a little swollen and numb at the same time. this week the MOHS surgeon said give it a year to heal up; and she said dont expect much change till maybe new year as procedure was invasive. the surgical site feels like you hit the side of my head with a hammer last week.
theres more! this week i developed a chalazion in my eye that need to be soaked and massaged 3 times a day. quite sore and annoying.
heres the rub: tomorrow we leave on a 3 day car trip to our winter home in florida. why are we going? because we usually go the end of september, because its 3 degrees, icy and snowy here, because we hate winter, because we miss our southern home. packing and organizing has been difficult, to say the least. but im hoping that when i get to florida, i can relax, focus on healing, enjoy the sunshine. my question: should i increase the pred for my travel? i always do--doc said it was smart to do that, even by 1/2 . thank you.

You answered your own question surely? Mind you - I'm far from sure you stayed at 10mg long enough and why are you in such a hurry to get back to 6mg when the weather is so yuk! Many doctors suggest not reducing during the winter!
Much the same here - wet snow bringing trees and power lines down and we had a 30 hour power cut Wed/Thursday. Another dollop today and more forecast for Sunday and Tuesday. We don't get snow in November and they had already had the entire precipitation for a normal November in the first week!!!

so MAYBE I should have stayed at 10 or thereabouts longer? until the pain triggers ease down/heal up? and then start the slow dsns reduction all over again? 84 day dsns is what ive been doing.
which begs the second question; i know im a pest. ive read about the 28 day reduction plan; is it worth trying? yes, i know that we need what we need but i guess im wondering whether it might be even feasible. if i go back up to say 9 or 10 and do the 84 day dsns, well, you know the rest. thank you and stay warn!

It might well be worth trying the 28 day reduction - you can always slow it down if you need to. But I do think you may need to start again with a dose that is enough - but as low as possible.

Don't forget to keep your scar well covered from the sunshine while it is still pink.....or sun will give you a permanent brown mark....I am sure you know this but sometimes, when we are so busy and otherwise pre-occupied we forget.....enjoy Florida....x
They do a kelo-cote with a sunscreen too but expect you have your own cover preparation...x

thank you. gonna buy a sun hat with a big wide brim as soon as we arrive! the doc said i will always have my 3" scar and that it will fade to a white line eventually. didnt know about the sun turning it brown. good info.

Yes - indeed it will....try to get some silicone cream/spray....I mentioned kelo-cote but others are available and with sunscreen too.....it has always helped my scars heal well and fade to nothing eventually......kc is expensive but so worth it xx

Twopies, listen to your body; never, never reduce your dosage if you have PMR pain, get the inflammation under control and the decide your tapering schedule in pencil so you can change it. You know the routine stay active, positive with a smile, here is smiling at you! 🙂 You can do it Lady, take a walk on the beach for me, some days I do miss the ocean, but not in the cold NE winters.
