Pmr another setback

lets see--ive already asked about mohs surgery in september (28 stitches on temple), post surgical pain from an outpatient rocedure in october (unable to take pain meds) and then 3 day car travel to florida last weekend. on the trip down i got a myofascial migraine--havent had one since maybe 2005. the ONLY thing that ever worked was morphine. husband took me to ER--they dont do morphine anymore. gave me pills. threw up pills. got morphine. morphine made me nauseated, carried bucket with me all next day.

dilemma...where should i be with prednisone? was at 6 1/2 before popping up after both mohs surgery in september and again after outpatient surgery in october. popped up again for car trip starting last weekend, did 10, 10, 10, 9, 8, 7, and today back to 6 1/2. feel beat up, look beat up. not having pain in groin, thighs, or shoulders, just misersble. 1) where in heck should i be with pred? and for how long? 2) if i DO go back to a higher dose, how long do i stay there? 3) and then would i start dsns all over again?

i have no clue what im doing. my gp will give me whatever i need. this fall has taken its toll on my already beat up pmr body. thank you.

Where should you be with pred? At the dose where you feel reasonably well I'd say. Was that 10mg? Don't reduce so quickly after taking it - but you may well not need DSNS.

do you mean go back to say 10 for another 10 days or so and then try 6 1/2 again? thats ok? (i know you need what you need but its ok to go up for a short while yet again? im feeling like my whole system is out of whack right now. thanks, eileen.

If it were me I would go back to 10mg for as long as it takes to feel well - if that is what it needs. Then reduce slowly - maybe a short DSNS, starting at one day new, 3 days old. See how it goes. But stop yoyoing. 6 1/2 is obviously not enough at the moment.

Twopies, enough Prednisone to get the inflammation under control so you can feel better. Once you are feeling good you can figure out the reduction. As long a you can get the inflammation under control quickly you can reduce at the same pace as you increased. I had to stay at 30 mg for 6 weeks so therefore I started on DSNS.

Last big increase was up to 20 mg stay there for 3 days and came back down in 5 mg 3 day steps to 3 mg stay on 3 mg for a week and started my DSNS taper to 2.5 again. I had no discomfort with the reductions. Good luck Twopies keep a positive attitude. πŸ™‚

okay, thanks. gonna get out my calculator to see whether i can figure out a correlating schedule for me (im not very bright). appreciate all the help i can get.

I believe the number isn't important - quality of life is all and you need what you need to get it.

Twopies, you are at 6.5 go to 10 for 3 or 4 days, not enough go to 15. You must get the inflammation under control. Mark the amount you are taking on a calendar when reducing reverse how you increased. You can do it without a .calculator. Round the numbers off, make it simple just get the inflammation under control. I says that as a person who did not and suffered the consequences. Think POSITIVE! πŸ™‚

Awwww Twopies, I'm so sorry to hear you're feeling "beat up". I totally "get you", as that's how I'm feeling too!

I had a colonoscopy and endoscopy yesterday, and feel like hell today.

I'm really beginning to see how any stress to your body, whether it be physical or emotional, throws everything into a loop!

I've managed to get back down to 6mgs again, down from 8,.....but we'll see what happens the next day or so.

I don't get results from biopsies for 7da, so it's gonna be a "white knuckle" kinda wk!!

my thoughts are with ya Twopies.....stay strong.πŸ’•

How have things been going up to now, Lynda? Are you feeling a bit better on the lower dose of pred?

hi Anhaga, things are going o.k. I guess, at least as well as can be expected.

have only been on 6mgs for a few days, but so far, so good.

I'm looking forward to starting Thanksgiving week by being greatful for all my blessings.

this has been an Extraordinarily difficult year, but I'm hopefulπŸ˜‰that 2020 will be much better!

      Hey.....one can dream, Right?!?πŸ’πŸ˜
