PMR & Exercise

I was diagnosed with PMR in 2016. During rehab I experienced various relapses that included mild muscle spams to severe plantars faciitis that lasted for months. Then I was asymptomatic for almost 4 months last year - all the time exercising (ie swimming, walking, yoga, tai chi). Recently I added pickleball to my program. PMR symptoms returned immediately! A low dose (5mg) prednisone for a few days worked! Now I must discern what activities are just too much!

I am taking to heart the good advice of moving slowly into new and more strenuous activities, especially tennis for me. Adding things you enjoy is good, and paying attention to setbacks so important.
Thanks everyone for taking care and lending your experiences to all of us who benefit from them,
Amy

It doesn't matter what it is - if you add a new activity using different muscles you have to train. And training with PMR doesn't mean the same as for someone who is an athlete. It means doing maybe 5 mins the first day and seeing how you are the next day. If that was OK you can try 6 mins - rinse and repeat. If it wasn't - do less next time, maybe half that, if you are OK, add a bit - rinse and repeat.
But you do need to go very slowly and you do need a rest day between to assess.

By contrast, I had severe plantar faciitis that lasted for months, disappeared all of a sudden, but was immediately followed by PMR.
