I have had PMR for around 9 months. Started at 20mg Pred now down to around 8mg. My energy level is around 60% of what I had before PMR. They say PMR hopefully goes into a remission state around 2 to 3 years does your energy level tend to improve. Also I have ruptured a blood vessel in my hip and recently in my eye. Both healed in around 3 weeks the hip felt like I was hit with a pipe black and blue bruise. I am 57 paddle surf around once a week and try to ride my bike a few times a week. I also have cut my exercise in half. Anyone have any blood vessel issues.

I have had PMR since August. I started on 15mg pred and am down to 10 at present. I am also 56 and in good physical condition.
My energy level has not been affected at all;in fact I am almost hyper now compared to before the diagnosis.
I too have had some issues. I have had some pretty wild looking bruises and not too sure how I got them.I was told this is pretty normal and not to be overly concerned . I was told that this will not occur once the dosage is below 5 mg for a period of time.
However, I think when in doubt of severe bruising.....it is wise to check in with your doctor.

My friends don't understand my lack of energy when biking or paddle boarding. I sit on the board to catch my breath between rides as you normally stand the whole time. Want to stay active for my mental health sanity.
I am thankful this condition can be managed, and I still enjoy my hobbies at a limited extent. The hip injury was not from any contact just a white guy trying to dance with his girlfriend. (Twisting)

Well Woodrow at least you can ride, I have lost my balance and have not been on my bikes for well a year and half. I would ride 4-5 times a week. I was hoping to ride 80 miles on my birthday, maybe 81 next year. Think positive, with a smile. 🙂

carolann35477, I still planning to get back on my bikes, but I am holding off building another. After ski season I hope to be back on mine, if not I will try my wife's, she has a peddle forward bike. Want to do 81 miles for my 81st birthday. Got to think positive and keeping a smile on my face. 🙂

I frequently get burst blood vessels in my eyes. The eye doctor said to use eye drops and this actually helps a great deal. Your hip bruise sounds like you bashed yourself. Owch. Lots of us get red bruiselike marks but I don't think they are usually painful.

Sounds to me like a subconjunctival haemorrhage of the Eye. I have had it several times.
The conjunctiva is like a thin 'skin' on the front of the eyeball. It covers the white part of the eye (the sclera) but does not cover the central part of the eye (the cornea).
In between the conjunctiva and the sclera run tiny blood vessels. If you look closely at the sclera you may just be able to see a few tiny blood vessels.
If one of these tiny blood vessels bursts, it bleeds in between the conjunctiva and the sclera. This bleed is called a subconjunctival haemorrhage.
What causes a subconjunctival haemorrhage?
In the vast majority of cases there is no apparent cause. It just occurs for no apparent reason. Older people tend to have them most.
As for the hip, I have never heard of such a problem before.

"They" may be correct for about a quarter of patients but 2 to 3 years is the low end of the range I'm afraid. Up to 5 years or so is much more likely for at least half of us - and a quarter have it even longer.
Pred makes the walls of the small blood vessels more delicate and so we bruise more easily. Just resting the laundry basket on my hip is sometimes enough to cause a bruise! Catching it on the door handle can leave a doozy!!! And for some people the bruises just appear without them having any idea what they did to cause one.
You might find that lowering the intensity of your exercise helps the lack of energy. And if the fatigue is very bad then gentle exercise, even just a short walk, can have a beneficial effect. But too much can leave you tired for days so that when you want to do more you still have no energy.You can build up how much you can do but it often means going right back and starting from a very low level and building it up like normal training but far shorter sessions and a very low levels at first - rather than dropping the amount from your previous level. Do you see what I mean?
