PMR, GCA, sweats

I just had another of several "episodes" over the course of this PMR, GCA. I always take my prednisone (presently 8m) at 8 a.m. With smy me yogurt. This mornings I awoke and went to the kitchen and barely made it; got all heated up, sweating, felt faint, nauseous...almost fainted, but managed to dmake wn the prednisone and get to the couch. I have been "down" with a bad cold for a week now...but the other couple weeks of times it has happened in the last year I was not sick. Any ideas? Doesn't seem to be precipitated by any other event, diet change, etc.

Also...thank you for the replies to the question about being around sick people. This is the first "sniffle" I have had in my 20 months of PMR!

Kathy, the "sweats" used to come on for me at weird times, often during or just following a meal and often following a dose reduction.  There was really no rhyme nor reason as to when they would strike  Being down with a virus is more than likely to precipitate an "episode" such as you experienced this morning.  I really empathise with you experiencing your "first sniffle" in 20 months - I am experiencing the first one in years - I've even lost my hearty appetite and that's a first for me!   Hope you feel better soon.  As for the sweats, they will lessen as you get lower on the steroids.

You are so right about the "no rhyme or reason" for symptoms....even "stress" is hard to always identify. Hope you get your appetite back...not eating good, nourishing food is not good. Don't know what I would do without this forum...Thank you!

Hi Kathy, i had night sweats at the very beginning of my GCA three years ago.

You had the feeling you were about to faint and this helped you. I had something similar it happened suddenly and I felt on my back reaching the corner of a book case and broke a rib. As now and then I feel I am about to faint, it became familiar to me so I put my head down and reach whatever is close to me and immediately it goes away.

You are the first person I find here with the same symptom as mine.

Probably this is connected to GCA - no too many people have it as I observe.

More often I see here PMR.

I relate so much to the description you make!

I do not know if this symptom happens when I go out of the diet , eating carbs, for instance.

Hope we all have a healthy 2016 the best possible!

Grateful to hear of your similar experience. I have not given up the carbs. My husband eats low-carb, that is fine...but with "no carbs" I don't have any energy at all! Can't imagine how a broken rib feels on top of everything else. Do you still have the GCA?.....and the PMR?

Hope 2016 is a great year!

I was diagnosed of GCA and I do not have those pains I read here.

I run the risk to go blind of both eyes according to my rheumy.

Now early December he told me that my positive attitude is helping me.

      Thank you for your reply!

Let's keep our hope alive for a great year!

If you are on prednisone why does your rheumy say that you risk blindness? Doesn't the prednisone prevent that

Exactly! This what I think and expect!

Besides the medication, being careful to eat the right food, avoiding what it's not and keeping active.

      Thank you for your reply!
