PMR, Prednisone, Spotting

Posted , 4 users are following.

2+ years on prednisone...also on bio-identical hormone replacement for 15 years...now, spotting. Also had a cortisone shots in both knees a week ago. Will see my OBGYN this morning.

Have been researching prednisone and cortisone and there are volumes about both being connected to spotting. My rheumy did not comment about the spotting except to say I needed to follow up with my other Doctor. I always want to blame everything on the prednisone, especially this...considering the alternatives!😊

Has anyone else had this happen to them after long-term steroids?

Kathy, I have been on Pred for 5yrs, but when given cortisone injections into joints had significant bleeding which sent me running to OBGYN, scan & D & C showed all clear and she told me it was related to the injections. Happened once or twice since as well. the Pred is low dose enough that it doesn't happen on that. don't worry....

Thank you all who responded! Had an ultra sound today...possibly a fibroid...all have a biopsy in two weeks, then a hospital ultra sound which is "better", clearer.  Nurse said she is not worried...could definitely be the prednisone and/or cortisone shots. Interesting that my rheumy did not want to entertain the question of spotting at all!! Score ne, again, for the forum!😊

Kathy, you are worrying because you are very anxious. As you say it could be related to the preds or cortisone, or a number of other things. Please get yourself along to your GP and put your mind to rest. Regards, tina

Tina's right, get it checked anyway, but it is probably nothing to worry about...
