PMR, Prednisone, Tapering Knowledge

so, after 3 years of PMR, and some good and bad tapering experience getting down to 7-1/2m from 15-10m, it has been mostly a bad idea to taper at all, pain fatigue-wise...so why not just stay at 9-10m? Seems so many people have tapered all the way down to 3 or 1 and then flare and have to go back to 10...so, with all the ups and downs over 3-10+ years, why mess with it. I am not hearing any major pitfalls from the prednisone, with a few exceptions. I know the doctors don't like us to take it at all, but we must.

If 7m is the "normal" production of our adrenals...increasing under stress to 9-10....is taking 9-10m all the time so bad? If you have PMR you are stressed all the time!

I agree it would be wonderful to stay on 10mg of pred or even higher without having to taper. However pred does have some quite nasty side effects we may not be aware of. We can see the fat face and the increase in blood pressure, but some effects on heart and bones for example we may not be aware of until it is too late, so it is a good idea to reduce to the lowest amount of pred to manage the PMR symptoms.

I am with you, Kathy, on the Prednisone.

In a hard way we finally learn that with all the side effects we know, without taking it until we feel comfortable regarding our symptoms we must go

    slowly with the tapering.

With all I have learned I follow the specialist and from 24mg I came down to 2MG. Feeling not well as never did before .....well just to say I have learned my lesson. Our body our system speaks loud when we do wrong.

Exchange experiences is an important point of these

    Discussions.

My love, my best wishes to all.
