PMR - Sinus Headache

Has anyone experienced sinus headaches as a result of PMR?  I just decreased to 1 3/4 mg Medrol a few days ago and during the night, I had a horrible headache; actually under the eyebrows down into the corners of the eyes and to the side of upper nose (sinus cavity).  Took an Advil and it seemed to help.  I don't want to go back up to 2 mg if I can hold on.

You can't blame PMR for everything - what would you have thought if you hadn't got PMR? It is as likely to be coincidence as PMR or steroids.

I thought it might be because I just tapered down but I figured I would wait to see if any other symptoms started; like aching legs, etc.

I think see how it goes and if the headache persists maybe see if it follows the same lines. Does seem like it's sinus cavity and if so I wouldn't be too sure that it's related to PMR or steroids. If its more one side of the head then i would get it would get it checked out! Hopefully the headache won't come back at all! xx

So far, so good. I'll stay at this dose until my next blood work and doctor visit on October 3rd. I'll be happy if I can stay at that dose without a flare up even though I only tapered 1/4 mg. It's a slow go but I'll do whatever it takes to reach zero!

My PMR started a year ago July and was put on 20 mg prednisone. First few months lots of pain and aches,  then switched to daily exhaustion. But by spring I developed frontal sinus headaches and 3 times had to visit the ER with hospitalization one of the times. Drs. kept saying they were not sinus headaches, but MIGRAINES! I've had a history of chronic sinusitis and know when it's sinus cavities.  I can't budge from 20 prednisone without more aching, but the headaches are under control thanks to temporary percocet prescription. I'm also watching for any dehydration which seemed to happen with the sinus pain.

Yes I have 'sinus type headaches'.  I am a long term suffer of sinus, but nowdays with salt water flushes etc I had not had a sinus headache for years. When my health first deteriorated, I had what I though were major sinus headaches in all sinus cavity areas and even set all my top teeth acheing. Dr treated me for sinus infections , but they did not go away. PMR was diagnosed a short time later. Once on pred, they went away. However headaches flare up again occassionaly, My overall health plummets/or PMR flares up  I am not sure which happens first, but they do happen together  I have recently had a scan tho, when I was suffering this 'sinus type headache' and nasal passages were clear. I am still surprised. I feel 'blocked up', and I sound 'blocked up'. I really do not know what is happening in my head

My headaches in the areas I described, come and go. I take Advil and it helps. I also bought a sinus mask that I keep refrigerated and I place it over my eyes which also helps. I don't know what triggers this. If I apply pressure to these areas with my fingers, I feel some relief.

I totally understand how you feel. At some point in my PMR I went to the ER with a monstrous headache in the frontal sinuses. My forehead also felt "all blocked up," and saline spray, headache relief--nothing, would alleviate it. They did a scan on me and said, "Your sinuses are clear. You have MIGRAINE!" I've had plenty bouts with sinusitis and even ethmoidectomy surgery. What I learned was that the sinus membraines can become inflamed and it feels like your cavities are "stuffed up."  My headaches were so bad I was nauseous and couldn't even keep water down. They finally, at my demand, put me on IV fluids and percocet and I was fine. I sometimes think that we can have a perfect storm of stress, humidity, pain and/or other factors that come together. The main thing I have learned is that, despite what some doctors or nurses say (and they do sometimes get locked in to their specific experise), WE are in charge of our bodies and need to reasonably question each diagnosis. As I told my doctors, I've lived with this body most of my life and feel that I sometimes know what's going on.

This is probably a long shot.....but one of the side effects of Pred is acid reflux and silent acid reflux. And one of the symptoms of reflux is sinus issues. Mayo Clinic and Cleveland Clinic have lots of useful info.

What I don't understand is why it comes and goes. I haven't had the sinus pain for the last 5 days. I'M down TO 1 3/4 mg and so far, I'm holding my own. However, yesterday, I started having pain in my right ankle and arch. Today, I had to wear my ankle brace. I'll see if it persists tomorrow. If I don't get any other painful symptoms, I will bear with the ankle pain in the hope it will go away without my having to go back up to 2mg. I also have been experiencing a little dizziness while I 'M sitting down I go for blood work next week and i'll be curious to see what my numbers are now that I 'm down to 1 3/4 mg.

.I already had acid reflux way before I was diagnosed with PMR and I take Prevacid, as needed. I don't ever recall having the sinus pain before I had PMR. I'm just so sick and tired of trying to find out why I 'm being plagued with all these ailments; one after the other.
