Hi again,

I am just wondering if anyone has had a dental sinus lift (elevation) and bone graft, I had this last Wednesday and obviously with the above conditions and on steroids was wondering if these are detrimental to the success re implants. I have to wait 6 months now to see if it is successful. I am very swollen and bruised, only to be expected. The stitches are still in at present. Just wondered if there are any successes with this procedure.

I hope you are al doing ok at the moment.

Hi Adette, I had dental implants March 2015 when I was on 15mg of pred.  I had to double up the day before, the day the work was getting started and the day after as well as having to take antibiotics.  Lower jaw, Dentist drilled into the bone, this work was done in 3 stages and it took a period of 9 months overall.  My chin was black and blue and yes I had stitches (quite a few).  Dental work is now over and I had no problems whatsoever.  I am now down to 3mg of pred (still stiff and sore muscles but bearable)  Hope this helps you.  All the best.

Thank you, it's my upper jaw and only doubled the day of bone graft and sinus lift. I have 3 stages too, and will be 10 months 2weeks, so will have to be patient, but the part that worries me is that I won't know if successful re bone graft until the posts go in in 6 months.

Oh Adette that was my biggest fear that the bone graft wouldn't take but it did and my Implantologist was concerned about bleeds (he didn't say it but I knew).  I think all in all it was about 1 year for everything to be completed and he was delighted with the health of my gums and everything went well.  I hope that is reassuring for you.

Thank you sooo much, yes it does, I'm probably a worrier, keep having pains on other areas in the mouth, hope I don't start with problems elsewhere.

Honestly I don't think you will have any problems.  You realise that your mouth has gone through a trauma so you may feel a twitch here and there and I think that is normal.  Having said that I am NOT a medical person.  My implantologist suggested at some stage to get my upper teeth or what's left of them lol ( a few crowns here and there) but to have the same procedure done and maybe I will sometime (it is expensive).  Adette I would get it done in a heartbeat.  I do think you will be ok but if you feel strange pains or whatever don't be afraid to lift the phone and get in touch with your Dentist.  He/she will only be too glad to reassure you.  Keep me in the loop as time goes on.

Hi Adette, I had 2 dental implants and required bone grafting. The implants went well but 6 months later I started getting pains all over and then 6 months later full blown PMR!!!! I think the implants caused my PMR!!! You already have PMR so not to worry. My implants are great!!

    I wish you the best!
