The heart doctor actually suspected PMR and GCA from my symptoms but no one took him up on it. Struggling on for a few years I finally couldn't even get out of bed and was then prescribed steroids which made me feel quite normal and full of beans apart from the palpitations. I read that Omneprazol could cause palpitations and bone thinning. I immediately weaned myself off Omneprazol which I had been prescribed for over ten years. Within days the palpitations stopped. I also felt better apart from the terrible pain of indigestion and heartburn which needed a change in diet. I now eat no red meat and only chicken and fish. I do not need any indigestion meds now unless I eat ice cream or go out to eat. It has taken almost eight months to get to this but the best thing I ever did. I also put my prednisolone tablets into empty gelatin capsules to stop them hurting my stomach too much. I do get the odd feeling of palpitations or missed beats but usually find a change of bra will sort this.
I think there is a need for a very researched and practiced anti inflammatory diet in order to help alleviate the effects of vas colitis like PMR symptoms which I believe caused my 75% blockage requiring a stent. Incidentally I have normal cholesterol levels for my age and am very allergic to all cholesterol lowering medication which immediately bring on exactly the same symptoms as PMR only ten times worse!

My symptoms are mainly unusual (for me) breathlessness when walking up hills or stairs, with these symptoms worsening with time. I had wondered about heart problems associated with PMR for a while but had never researched it.
A few days ago, when I researched it, I was a bit shocked to find that there's a large increase of risk of heart disease with those of us who have PMR. If I remember correctly. the increase of risk of stroke and heart-related problems is almost 100%.
Apparently it's all related to inflammation, which is another reason to make sure we stay on sufficient dosages of prednisone.
Tht's the dilemma for me. Is my breathlessness because of my prednisone usage (currently 9 mg) or is it because the blood vessles to my heart have been affected?
I'm not sure that anyone, even the doctors, will be able to answer this question, but I do have an appoitment to see what they can do.
Thanks again all,

The BSR Guidelines on Diagnosis and Treatment of GCA advise that two years both the Aorta and Pulmonary artery are tested to see if they are tickety boo.
I never had a problem, until 8 months off pred completely and what turns up the most commonest heart problem for over 70's Atrial Fib. Old age never comes alone, it brings unwanted friends.
