Pockets of inflammation Small bowell
Posted , 4 users are following.
Hi.
So after colonoscopys. Ct scans etc all coming back negative . I eventually had the pill capsule endoscopy.
This has shown that I have pockets of inflammation in the small bowell/intestine. Could this be the cause of the horrific abdominal pain I’ve had for 2 years. ?
They now say I’ve got to have a barium x ray also.
Any ideas please.

Hi Chris
Sorry to hear of your problems, it sounds like you've been going through some intensely painfull experiences lately.
From what I've researched it sounds like Diverticular Disease of the small intestines, although this is much less common in the small intestines than it is in the large intestine, but it is possible. Two main symptoms accompany this disease, bloating and non specific (general) pain around the upper, central area of your abdomen, roughly from your sternum to an inch or two above your belly button. Another sign that the disease has progressed to a more severe state is Anemia, I presume you have had blood tests done to check this? Do you have any other symptoms?
I'm not speaking from experience, this is info that I have found, but I have had similar problems, although my pains have been quite bearable and not horrific as yours are. Two doctors suspect Crohn's Disease of the small bowel, while two other doctors and a number of others don't share the same view. They said as my last colonoscopy a few months ago came back normal, and everything looked healthy, they say I can't have Crohn's, but I produced two positive faecal calprotectin results on separate occasions, which is an inflammatory marker. However, in recent weeks I've learnt that food intolerances and haemorrhoids can both cause inflammation that could've reflected on the calprotectin results. I know I have internal haemorrhoids as that was confirmed during my last colonoscopy, and this week I got results back for a food intolerance test and found that I'm severely intolerant to 17 types of food, with the main 3 that I consume daily being milk, coffee and chocolate. Since I've stopped consuming these I already feel better, not 100%, but a definite improvement. I do still wonder if I have Crohn's though, that's the problem with having a condition you can't see, you find it hard to accept.
