Pointless physio and inevitable surgery?

So as time goes on and physio gets closer again, I am starting to wonder if there really is any point.  My avulsion fracture / tearing of ligaments in my left foot was nearly two years ago and two years on it's still extremely stiff, painful and weak.  My thoughts are (from having non fruitful physio in the past for other injuries) is it really going to make any difference at this point?  I am working myself up a bit thinking it's just pointless and I'm going to have to end up having surgery, I don't even know if the bone is aligned properly, nor do the doctors and no one knows if there is any soft tissue damage / joint issues, is it really normal to just throw physio at something like that and hope it gets better?

    Hey Gremlin----

I'm not sure what your asking here? And your injury /surgery was 2 yrs ago?

      Can you explain more?

      Sorry explained it badly.

I broke my ankle 2 years ago (no surgery), I rolled on it and had an avulsion fracture of the left lateral Malleolus my rolling over on it down a hill as well as tearing some ligaments. I was put into a boot etc etc, and had no other treatment. Two years on it is still very stiff, painful and weak, I just wonder, after 2 years will physio actually make a difference, and perhaps surgery is unavoidable?

      Hi Gremlin,

PT should help you some.  A tear in the ligament is honestly nothing to play with though. I had a fall and I was told it was just a sprain and it turned out to be torn ligaments and tendons. Also it was very weak when I walked on it and I could feel the roll all the time.

For me I finally went to a Orthopedic specialist and he took X-rays and an MRI. The MRI is what found every thing and surgery it was!

Try the PT first and follow up with an MRI if you still feel the unsteadiness and pain.

      Good luck!
