Firstly speak to your doctor about your weight and get some medical advice how you might reduce this, and at the same time please discuss your depressed state of mind.

Secondly, please clearly understand that the only way forward from late stage polysistic kidney disease is through a transplant, and let that be the prime motivation for you losing weight.

Start becoming proactive, in other words deal with issues before they become a real problem.

    Hi Chloe,

Excellent advice has been given already.  When we are told our kidneys are failing its a lot to get our heads round and even when we know at some point we are going to need dialysis and a transplant in the future when the time comes for it to happen its still a shock.  You need to get your head in the right place first regading your transplant and also the fact you may need dialysis.  The likelyhood of a quick transplant is very slim.  So I would start looking into the two different types of dialysis now to see which one suits you and your life the best.  I would speak to friends and family to see if anyone is interested in being tested to see if they are a match (not an easy conversation to have).  While you are doing the above do a little plan of what you are going to eat each week for breakfast, lucnch and tea and plan a few snacks.  Do you have a dietician yet, the reason I ask is because steemed chicken and fish are ideal if you want to loose weight, however if your potassium levels are high steeming stuff especially vey is a no no.  Dont deprive yourself of stuff as you will fail its all about moderation.  If you fancy a treat buy the mini bite size version of things.  Start doing a bit of exersize, if you are body consious start by walking, you don't have to go on a hike kust a brisk walk and build it up to long periods as you feel more confident so you walk further, faster and go uphill.  Skipping is also good and you can do that in your own garden so no one can see you, also hoolahooping.  Lastly don't weigh yourself everyday do it weekly and don;t use this as the only method to measure your weight loss.  At the very start messure the tops of your arms, your chest, your stomach, your hips and the tops of your legs after a month measure them again. Keep a recored and each time you lose inches buy yourself a little treat (I don't mean something to eat) get a nice top or something.  Don't feel alone if you need anythig let me know I would be more than willing to gee you along and I do peritoneal dialysis if you want to know more about that.

    Take care xx

      Hi,

Rome wasn't built in a day and the importnat thing is you are taking the steps.  You have made the first move, so start of doing a little, skip for say 5 minutes to start off with.  Do this for a couple of days then increase it to 6 minutes.  Every couple of days increase it by a minute as you get fitter you will be able to do more.  Walking is good too, do a brisk 15 minute walk twice each day thats good.  No one expects you to be able to run 10k the minute you start exersising.  start with small steps then you will be able to do more.  Let me know how you get on xx

I used to be a hypnotherapist and know how people suffer with depression and weight control. I also know that a good hypnotherapist can be of immense help in all aspects of motivation, self image, depression and weight control. You really do have what it takes to get back to a life worth living and a little help is all you need. Best of luck in finding such a person near to you.
