polycystic ovaries and weight problems

Hi everyone, im very new to this forum but im joining as i feel i need some support and help. I was diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome 2 years ago after gaining about 4 stone in about a year, the more i gained the easier it went on. Ive tried dieting numerous times i get so far and then nothing else happens and it just seems to stop no matter what i do or how little i eat, and then it would seem within a matter of weeks the exact amount i lost is back on and more. i am now at the moment trying once again to lose weight as i am going to floorida this year with my boyfriend and i dont want to feel out of place as my weight is severly effecting my confidence. Does anyone have any tips for me as i honestly find losing weight impossible. i am 5ft 6 and 15.5 stone, ive lost half a stone in 3 weeks but now its starting to flucuate back up and then down again even though im eating the same, i cant seem to get below the 15 stone mark and i think if i could it would be a huge help. i am extremely greatful for any tips or just to talk to anybody with the same issues.

thank you biggrin

    Hi Shellbell,

I have had PCOS now for 17years and have always suffered with weight problems. When I was little my mum used to dress me and my big sis in the same clothes. Hers always fit perfect and mine were always too short because of my belly haha, i can laugh about it now but i still have weight issues. I have tried all sorts of diets. The key thing for me is excercise, if I excersise regularly I find I can cheat and not stick to a proper diet.

I will message you with some details. Jinnett

Hi Jinnett, thank you for your reply. I really am struggling, I am trying to exercise I have bought an exercise bike which I try and go on as often as possible but it just hurts, I also have terribly thin hair and the excessive facial hair which I've had for years which really puts me down, I've tried alot of different medications but they don't work I also haven't had a period for about 5 months now which I'm going to the docs for this week. I'm just so miserable I'm trying si hard to lose weight I haven't had any of my favourite foods for about 4 weeks now I've really cut back and that's not ever working

I'm sorry that you feel so low. It is a constant battle but you can do it. For me the facial hair growth is what really got me down but I am so happy at the moment now it feels under control. What you might have to do is make a food diary, cut things out record how you feel, if you lose any weight etc. Then put it back in your diet and do the same. Its a long process but one that could really help. For me bread is a massive problem, grapes can be and carrots, as well as the usual chocolate and anything yummy haha.

Haha yeah, I used to eat alot of fast food and haven't touched any for 4 weeks and I honestly would have thought I'd have lost a lot just from that, just feel like it's something I can't control and I'm so impatient aswell and worrying about being fat for my holidaysad

There are plenty of quick fix diets out there that may help kick start your weigh loss and help you lose some for your holiday, but be careful that you don't just pile it on again afterwards. Walking is really good for gradual weight loss and without the pain of the gym. It is better than running as it does not put extra pressure on your knees. Start of small distances then build up. Make sure you wear decent trainers and socks or it can hurt your shins .. Trust me it really hurts!

Yeah me and my family go for walks in the summer it's just so cold at the moment, that's why I've been using my bike, which is good just tiring, and I've done fad diets before really I do just pile the weight back on and more so that's why I've tried just cutting out the rubbish but I can never ever get below 15 stone and that's where I'm stuck now

I would try the diary thing. That way you will know exactly what to stop and what to have. You may find out that dairy products really effect you and that they have been a big part if your diet throughout. Cheese caused me loads of problems especially with my gallbladder and really, really bad indigestion which doubled me up. But until I stopped having it I didn't know that!

Sorry about the late reply Jinnett, I don't eat much bad stuff apart from takeaways, which I've now stopped for 6 weeks and still struggle to lose even a pound a week, I only drink milk in my tea, and have a small amount of cheese on pasta, I'm going to see my Dr tomorrow as I'm getting fed up of trying so hard and not getting anywhere sad
