polymyalgia

Hello SES, Have you seen the rheumatologist yet? You said you have an appointment for September..i didn't have pain in my hands, knees and feet like you, just intense pain in the main muscles. As PMR is inflammation of the muscles do you think you have osteo Arthritis as well? You said your sedimentation test was negative mine was an extremely high 97. You are so young to have PMR. I don't know how you are coping with so much pain. Before I went on steroids it could take 15 minutes just to turn over in bed. I am a very reluctant drug taker but I was amazed at how fast they work and how soon they get you back on your feet.
I'm just afraid the darned thing will come back now I am rid of it. Please let us know how you are diagnosed. I just hope things are easier since your first posting. Anabel

Polymalgia is the last diagnosis I have been given but is unconfirmed, I have degenerative discs of the spine and I had a congenital dislocation of the hip when I was born , other term being \"clicky hips\" I had an xray first on my spine that confirmed my spacing had narrowed and the orthopedic sent for an MRI which confirmed I have degenerative discs of the spine! Since having pain in my hips I told my doctor about when I was born and so he sent me for an x ray and this showed spacing had narrowed which the doctor said this could be early signs of osteoarthritis, I have had a number of blood tests for R A, sed rate and these came back negative, however inflammation was shown in the full blood count and like I have said the Nurse says this is due to the immune system attacking my joints causing the inflammation????? :?: So I am hoping I have an answer tomorrow as I sick of being in pain!!!!! its in my shoulders, ribs (when pressed on) hips, elbows, wrists, hands, knees and feet  I am 35
and I am fed up!!!!! and it has seems to get worse now its colder, when the weather changes?
Thanks for replying to me, take care x

Went to the rhuematologist and it was a waste of time, my sed rate is elevated to 32, and anemia, but wasn't concerned as a more sensitive test showed inflammation but that could due to a water infection I had ........I told her about Polymaylgia and she said I cant have that as my sed rate isnt high enough, and I said that the Occupational health doctor said it could be Fibromyalgia and she said yes it could be? Total waste of time going she said I should loose weight and thats all she said, I said I have been like this for six months she said you have mechanical back strain and thats that, she had no x-ray with her, or my file, or information on computer screen, just a bit of paper with a few notes. She did all the bending and twisting limbs to see how flexible I was and she said I was too flexible in my hands, but how is it she didn't check for tender points????? as if she had pressed on these she might of noticed that it is painful? surely there is some kind of device that can sense my pain???NOT, wishful thinking.........just got to suffer in silence, as I thought this specialist might give me some answers?????

My blood results are as follows....... :steam:
FBC - HB 11.8 units g/dL range (12.0-15.0) Stat which is LO
Haematocrit - 34.3% (36-46) LO
Lymphocyte count 1.3 10*9/L (1.5-4.0) which is LO
WBC 4.2 10*9/L (3.4-11) NORMAL
other tests in this category were ok
I
Erythrocyte sedimentation count 32mm (1-12) which is HI
Liver function test all came back normal apart from:-
Serum Gamma 159iu/L (<42) HI
As my thyroid function test had altered like I have said she wasn't interested due to the urine infection and my thyroid function test I had to decrease my medication as it had altered:
Serum TSH 0.20mu/L (0.36-4.1)
Serum T4 level 27.2 pmol/L (11.2-26.0)
and as yo can see no Rhuematoid factor was taken or HLA-B27 so how can this so called Rhuematologist make a diagosis????
The rhuematologist said I had mechanical back strain!!!!! and yet she didnt look at my medical records or look at xrays and MRI showing my ddd and hip spacing narrowing????:brr: :dragon:
Kind regards
