Polymyalgia, Prednizone and skin rashes

I am into year 4 with PMR. I'm currently on 7.5 mg of Prednizone after a flare in my foot I suffered with for 2 mos. I went from 20-15-12.5-10-7.5. I've noticed an itchy rash on my shoulders. Not much takes the itch away. At first I thought it was a sun reaction but not anymore. Does anyone else have this issue?

I called my Rhumy today to see if they could give me something, but I do spray it with things like Lanacaine, but it's a temporary fix. Let me know what your doc says. It drives me insane. If I start scratching it intensifies, its awful. Last summer I noticed it more on my lower arms.

Hi again Pam, I did go to the doc today. Net result was that she said that she didn't actually know what the area was, not seen it before. She said if it is very itchy then hydrocortisone should sort it and has given me a strong one - Dactacort to use for a week. Says if it does not resolve to go back to see the 'skin' doc in the practice, who will probably do a biopsy. So, hoping the Dactacort works!! Of course your itchy area may be somehting completely different. She did not seem to think it was related to PMR. All the best Sarah (Loulie)

I've noticed generalized itching in various places, mainly upper part of my back. I use bag balm or white petroleum jelly, lightly over moist skin, for lubrication. Other lubricating products help the dryness, which also causes some itching. Good luck. Elinor

Have you changed your soap, or has your soap changed its formula? Have you tried moisturizing with oil? Years ago when I had recalcitrant itchy dry skin, mostly on hands, which always came back when hydrocortisone ointment discontinued, I cured myself by using an edible oil from a plant I can't name on the forum, but it begins with h and ends with p. Tried olive oil in case it did the same thing, but it didn't help nearly as much. Also found a cream at the pharmacy which has shea butter as a major ingredient. No recurrence of the problem, maybe more than 10 years since.
