polymyalgia rheumatica

My husband was just diagnosed with polymyalgia rheumatica and because of the pain we purchased the new 360 smart bed from Sleep Number.  For me it was wonderful but my husband says he can't sleep on it.  Does anyone have any suggestions on new mattresses or does it even matter.  Pain will be pain no matter what you sleep on.  We bought the king split.  He also has back issues as well.

Get a memory foam mattress topper from Soak And Sleep. Costs @ £120 but really helps. Like sleeping on a firm marshmallow. Good luck.

We purchased a Simba mattress because our old mattress had come to the end of its life.  It has a 100 day trial and I read many reviews.  They all said great things and I have to say, we are very pleased and sleeping peacefully.  But, no mattress will ever deal with too much pain…?  I am in the UK and ours came from John Lewis but Simba do sell online with the same offer, I believe.

I honestly don't think beds make that much difference. However - does he find it too hard? Has he got thigh pain that hurts if he lies on his side? If so, it could be trochanteric bursitis and that is best dealt with separately from the PMR pain - I have had steroid injections which worked very well.

Either try a mattress topper or it is much cheaper to get a heavyweight synthetic duvet - a double one is ideal and fold it in half and put it on his side of the bed. Much much softer to his muscles! A lot of people did this and it worked well for a miminal outlay.

I also had/have Trocanteric Bursitis in both hips as well as PMR/GCA. The only way I could sleep, and still do, is using a 'sleep' recliner chair. It has been a great relief to me. Good luck in your search.

You can return it within a certain time limit. I never found my sleep # bed to be comfortable. I put an egg crate mattress topper which helps. Some of the smooth foam toppers are hot and a person sinks into a hard spot. Cotton mattress protectors

Are a must to avoid sweating. A firm mattress hurts me more than one which "gives".

We just got the bed and was told we could do a 30 day trial and if it didn't work we could return it. The bed does not work. I called. We were hoodwinked. It is costing us 500.00 restock fee and 180.00 to come back and get it. The warranty mattress covers we had to buy they won't take back either. I'm hoping the sheets we bought will fit next bed as they don't take those back either. Very stressful and finding another bed I have a bad taste in my mouth.

Are you in the USA? If so complain to the Bureau of Consumer Affairs and the Better Business Bureau and tell that to company. Is it in writing that you have that "restocking" fee? Can can also Tweet a complaint about the company. That public display often gets results.

When I was diagnosed I had bad back pain along with pain in all the muscles. We needed to change the mattress anyway and I chose a good quality Hypnos medium soft mattress.  I had tried every bed in the house and nothing worked, but this mattress was wonderful and made a huge difference especially at that time I could only sleep on my back until I split my dose of pred.  However, I am sure a mattress topper would also help.  Do hope your husband improves soon.

I have just got a new bed with individual springs surrounde by memory foam and it is great. Before that I had memory foam topper which also helped.Plus as could not bear the weight of bedding.Forked out on a mulberry silk duvet.Very light and thin. Was dubious it would be enough in winter but it is and have never regretted the cost (has a 10year warranty).Hope you get sorted soon as nothing worse than bad sleep
