Hi all my surgeon today did a colonoscopy due to rectal bleeding. he diagnosed me with a colon polyp and hemmeroids. the polyp was 18mm and sent for pathology, has anyone been through similar. my consultant/surgeon/professor says he's 99% it's benign. Anyone had this before???

I had a couple of polyps removed after a colonoscopy 2-3 years ago that were benign. The chances, like your doctor says, are overwhelmingly in favour of them being nothing to worry about.

I had three of them and all were large. My doctor was concerned as she said I am kind of young to have three large polyps. Well in my case I have Crohn's disease, so it isn't really unusual for someone with IBD to get growths. None of them were cancer. From what I read 99% of polyps are non cancerous. Cancer in the colon some times is flat and hard to detect. It is really an issue with those with IBD. So if you don't have a family history of cancer or have Ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease then you probably will be ok. I am not a doctor, but from what I have read. I am concerned due to me having IBD. So try not to worry about it. The pathology report took about three to five days for mine.

DP, the surgeon told me there and then (well, once I'd recovered and fully woke up) that they were non-cancerous and benign.

I haven idea how big they were.
