Pompholyx Eczema after Athletes Foot

Hi all. Please can someone help?
About 5 weeks ago i developed really severe athletes foot - now not ever having athletes foot before this was really shocking to me. The doctor prescribed Canesten HC cream and erythromycin - as i am allergic to penicillin and it is now beginning to feel normal again. The problem is now that i seem to have developed the same as what was on my foot on my right hand. I went back to the doctors and he gave me Fucibet cream and told me to continue to take the erythromycin - but i've only been able to take 2 of these a day rather than the prescribed 4 as they were makiing the side of my face burn. The condition has just been getting worse and worse and when i went back to the doctors the beginning of the week she told me to keep using the cream, prescribed another lot of erythromcin and some dermol handwash/moisteriser cream and suggested i wear a cotton glove to bed. The doctors haven't diagnosed it as Pompholyx Eczema but after extensive research on the internet this is what i'm 99% sure it is. I have got a few blisters developing on my other hand and am absolutely terrified it's going to spread like wild-fire. The blisters on my right hand are all over my fingers, palm and beginning to go to the base of my wrist and between my thumb and finger towards the back of my hand. The ones on my palm seem to be merging together and are quite pus filled. My other problem is that after applying the Fucibet cream is does look really red and angry, my fingers seem to swell a bit more and is drawing liquid out. Is this a good thing or is it as i suspect and that is i am allergic to the Fucibet cream?
Any advice would be gratefully recieived or indeed and cures, either by prescription or natural cures or self help.
Please, please i am desperate as it is now making everyday chores almost impossible and even using the computer is agonising
Thank you in advance..

Hi all. Went to see a Dermatologist the beginning of the week. He told me it's not Palmo-Pustular Psorasis but Chronic Eczema. Hardly bothered to look at the list of meds i have been or am using at the moment, only questioned why i'm taking Doxcycline. He's prescribed ClobaDerm steroid cream and Aveeno Moisteriser and told me to come back in 2 months time! When i asked him what causes things like this his reply was 'Your skin is more sensitive to things than what mine are'!
Can't say i'm very happy with the service i received and shall be writing to my doctor about it but in the meantime just do as i am told ii guess!

Sorry you're being treated like so many are.
Please be careful with the steroid cream! If you're going to use it, please remember it's maximum of 2 weeks, twice day, in a very thin layer, without dressings, and keep a very close eye. Steroids increase infection, and as we've discussed can cause RSS.
God bless

I can understand that you're unhappy with the service. The first GP should have put you on steroid cream + moisturiser. It is the standard treatment. How did you get on with the Betnovate?

I've had Fucibet and Betnovate and didn't get on with either so am keeping a very close eye on it - to me taking me off the antibiotics and then giving me 2 more different creams is too many changes at once. I think the ClobaDerm maybe too strong and is making it burn but we will see!

I don't think they know what to do with me Patrick15755! The Betnovate made it blister more and burn so can't see the ClobaDerm being very successful.

I have Eczema on the face, back of the knees, wrists. The Eczema Tracker app really helped me to keep a track of my problems. I needed to learn more once I walked away from the doctor's office so I started looking for apps and came across the Eczematracker app.

Hi Mazria I am very new to this site and hopefull can add some ideas to this discussion. I have had dermatitis since I was about 5 years old or younger. I am now 48 and have had bouts of this over my life time. As an kid I had nurse visits to treat infection and change bandages on both my feet. My hands would become infected as well. Growing up I became the expert of my own illness and virtually know the signs and whats ahead. I have cupboards filled with cotton gloves, band-aides and dressings. Just recently I have had a sever breakout on my foot, my feet have been dermatitis free for ages and I thought I had contracted athletes foot, but ended up being dermatitis again. I am currently treating this. I was prescribed antiobiotics to treat the infection and steriod cream Celestone M cream 0.02%. Also I have taken an antihistamine tablet for the past 9 days. This has worked wonders in controling the unbelivable itch and allowing the flare up to at least have a breather & also allow me not to scratch and rub and although the scratching is a wonderful relief, does causes it to re-infect and the cycle starts all over again. I am noticing a spread of tiny blisters and was about to return to the docters again as it was red and inflamed. I use a bio oil solution or a goats milk cream in between the steriod cream use, especially at night. If its too dry it cracks and it makes walking a bit hard. Im have a few ideas and over a lifetime of trial and error I sometimes seem to have control and keep calm. Yes there are some very testing times, but I also believe worring and stress may increase inflamation & outbreaks. Controling my moods, relaxing & laughing when all else seems lost have also helped.Kind regards AMAC

Hi Amac19 - Many Thanks for taking the time to reply to my post. I've been finding that taking an antihistamine at bedtime seemed to calm it down quite a bit enabling me to have a fairly decent night of itch free! Hadn't come across the bio oil solution or goats milk cream treatment - interesting Over the past 3 years i have been through some testing times and not once did this kind of thing rear is ugly head but then just as things seem to settle a tad, i'm plagued! I do agree though that stress and worry don't help and have noticed that now this is in my system any tiny hint of stress can cause it to itch an blister more. I find it hard to relax though and have contemplated yoga to try and chill out a bit.

I'm still here with an update for you! Still using the ClobaDerm once a day and the Aveeno Moisturiser when i feel i need it, even though the Dermotologist prescribed it to use for one month only, but there is vast improvement in my hands with just a couple of blisters on my palm and the worst being small breakouts on the joints of my first two fingers on one hand - weird! Last week was the first time for 2 months or so that i was able to shower without the vinyl gloves and elastic bands!, although i realise i have to be very careful. Still waiting for the next appointment to come through from the Dermotology department as the 2 months will be up in just over 2 weeks time.

Hi Mazria thank you for the update. Isnt it a wonderful releif when the small things count. I too have had to shower with cotton cloves and plastic gloves over the top, just to use your hands and function without all the preparation. I understand about beeing careful, especially with products. I found a soap about 10 years ago,it was the only soap my hands didnt react too. I have been using this soap evere since & can honeslty say I wont use any other soap.. Im not sure if I can mention it as it may be advertising, but its a 3 in1 bar and I have to buy it via a distributor, who is a life long friend and was amazed at the results of the soap with my sensitive hands.
I am currently in a battle with a big break out on my foot. I use the steriod creme on the other parts and utilising my own remedies. Its drying out and the skin on my foot is starting to heal a bit, some very new sensitive areas and very hard and crusty skin as well. I am applying a dermaveea cream and my bio oil to keep it moist during the night. I have non stick bandages and wrap iit up wiith an ankle sprain bandage over the top as well. Helps me walk and keep it clean. Im glad things have settled down for you. Take care & best of luck Mazria

Hi all.
Cant believe it was over a year ago I was posting in this discussion. How are you all coping with your skin problems?
I still have ongoing problems with my hands especially and a little with my feet, so I'm guessing it is now something I am going to battle with indefinitely now Have waited since January for a follow up appointment at the hospital and have finally got an appointment for the week after next!
