Pools, Hottubs and Baking Soda Baths

I know with LS we have to watch everything we do and avoid a lot of things.

So is it okay to go into a swimming pool?  Will it cause a flare-up because of the Chlorine?  Would it be okay if you make sure you immediately shower after going in the pool.

How about Hot Tubs?  Can one ever go in again or are they to be avoided at all costs.

Most people say to put in 1/3 cup of Baking Soda in a bath which is what I have been doing. What happens if you put in more than 1/3 cup.

Is it okay to have more than one baking soda bath a day?

I know for sure that too much baking soda in your bath will hurt you.  Better stick to the 1/3 cup is my learning experience.

I haven't gone to Hot Tubs and swimming pools since my LS diagnoses.  Just scared of the bacteria in public places.  I have done some swimming in a mountain lake, under parts covered with Purol. (compares a little with Vaseline, but milder and has healing items in it) And then not too long a swim either.  Just so I could cool off in Summer.

I'm sitting here right now with a burnt tailbone because I forgot to mix the baking soda into the water before I sat down right on the baking soda. Too much is bad. Don't overdo it, Sue.

O poor you.  I will talk tomorrow about some new findings regarding baking soda rinses.  Have to go to bed now.

      LS versus urethra environment.

I used to swim all the time. Now it is only once in a blue moon and only saltwater. so long as you don't sit around in your wet swimsuit and have a shower asap you should be okay. I would apply a barrier cream of some sort - I have shares in Sudacreme (same as what you would use on a babies bottom and recommended by dermatologist).

Try and alternate and use salt in your bath - also very healing and you don't have to be so precise with measurements.  Two baths a day could be damaging overall to the natural oils in your skin. I love in a really hot climate and I do have a second shower but always have a spritz bottle of either bi carb/or salt after.

    Good luck.

I swim weekly, but my pool is meticulously cleaned, and so if you know the owners of the pool, know that it is well looked after, you might be okay, that being said, a public swimming pool wouldn't be something I would want to get into.  Hot tubs are well known to be a breeding ground for infections ranging from skin issues to STD's and so not ideal for people like us.Some women have stated that swimming in the sea has helped their LS, I am guessing it must be the salt water.
