Poor urine stream after turp.

At this point in time I am 4 weeks post TURP. I have to say that my urine flow rate and discomfort are much worse than before the op. I am beginning to wonder when I will see any benefit from the procedure.

HI John
I've had 2 turps. I have to say it was months before things got better for me. AT 6 months I was amazed. But for me at a year I was back taking flowmax to be able to go... But hang in there, definately takes awhile to heal.

I had Turp in 2019 . The first two months after was a bit of a nightmare and I had to self catheterise. But slowly and surely things improved .
Now I pee well and with a full bladder it is almost as it was ten years ago and I void extremely well . Still a tad slow in the mornings . I am 66 years of age.
However I would say it has been a success and I am happy. I take no medication and my life is back to normal. I would say it took around a year to regain my confidence and start to feel normal again.
So hopefully things improve for you. From everything I read it shows we are all so different in outcomes and time scales

Be patient and allow your brain to re-learn how to respond to the bladder and vice versa. Drink a lot of water, especially first thing in the morning to flush everything out. Not sure how much tissue was removed during your TURP. I am 11 months post-TURP #3 and things are mostly working just fine. In the past months, I've blown scab tissue and pink bits out of my urine. I get used to it, just part of the healing process.
For my situation, my dr did TURP #1 which didn't help, so he cut more with TURP #2 which left me totally blocked. I self-cath'ed during the holidays of 2020 and had TURP #3 in January 2021. I got a 2nd opinion which told me that some urologists remove gradual amounts of tissue and other urologist prefer to just hollow out the organ in one operation.
