    Hi Luv,

Not sure what you mean about the change. But lots of great new contributors have joined.

I hope all is well with you. I am at 16 weeks and doing okay. I will be even better after my second hip is done I think (late summer). If it was good I would be flying. My connective tissues have settled down finally; and the knee and ankle seem to have finally adjusted to new hio, posture and gait. Almost time ti stir them up again!

    Welcome to your friend.

    Best wishes,

      Hi Linda,

i was so interested to read your comment about connective tissues and the knee and ankle.

my foot is pointing straight for the first time n my life, and the knee seems too far in right now, but it is only three weeks after thr so I won't panic yet!

i have a feeling that the precautions are not just for dislocation issues, but as you mention, connective tissues all have to adjust correctly too.  No one has yet mentioned this before to me.

thankyou! I will not be tempted to cheat with 90 degrees etc now!

      Happy healing

The operation may well be harder on the connective tissues. My doctor's operation report references the 'gentle manipulation' of the hip out of its socket and then later 'gently' back in. According to those who have watched the video of the operation, there isn't anything gentle about it. And much of the force is necessarily applied though other joints which explains some of the unexpected bruising behind the knee and calf. At that is really only the beginning of the indignities as the connective tissues surrounding the hip are also attached to the other joints and get stretched mightily when the hip is out of joint ... not to mention those that may be disconnected and reattached to new pieces of hardware. While the bone pain is identifiable, to my mind most of what we contend with is the pain of these muscles, tendons and fascia that have been traumatised.

So ... yes be kind to those poor tissues - they have been through a lot.

I'm not sure who posted it originally, but there is a reminder that heat often soothes (I think Bini was involved in the discussion) and I certainly found this helped with my hamstrings, IT band and other tissues that wrap the area from hip to knee. It really helped to loosen them before I started exercising as well. But cold packs were also needed for the swellling.

      Good luck Jacqui.

    Hiya Luv,

Lots of newbies, and still a few of us 'oldies' too.

Amazingly, the same old topics come up again and again, which is where my website comes in useful now.

    Hope you are doing well.
