Positive hla b27

I recently tested positive for Hla b27 along with a slightly elevated CRP.  I have several bulging disks in lumbar region, DDD, gluten intolerance and IBS symptoms, chronic red eyes with floaters. I cannot get the rheumatologist to return my calls regarding any significance to this test and my PCP said it was simply an inflammatory marker.  After reading what I can find on Hla b27, I am still confused if this could be the linking factor to my insanely random symptoms.  Anyone else have a similar situation?

Hla b27 is closely associated with ankylosing spondylitis - an autoimmune inflammatory arthritis and some other forms of inflammatory arthritis. Being positive does NOT mean you will definitely develop it or the other autoimmune disorders it figures in but since the symptoms you describe are typical of various autoimmune disorders then your doctor should be looking at those possibilities.

However - it isn't an emergency situation and at this time of year perhaps the doctor is on holiday which is why he isn't returning your calls. Be patient.

Thanks Eileen,  I have only called twice to the rheumatologist, once a couple of weeks before Christmas and again this week.  So, I feel I’m being patient. Not going to call again, as I don’t want to be a pest.  This was just something I was not familiar with.

You will get loads of info if you google it - some is pretty understandable. But there is no need to worry too much - it is just one piece in the autoimmune jigsaw. And there are often a lot of pieces!
