Positive HSV-2 IGG Result in Low Range; BF Has a Negative IGG

I recently tested positive for HSV-2 (IGG range 1.54). When I spoke with my bf, he went and got re-tested again (he had a negative test in February as well at my request before we became intimate) and his IGG result was negative. I had also tested negative in late December and had been with no one since 6-7 weeks before that. Also, I have done full testing for all stds every six months for the last couple of years and my HSV-2 has always been negative. Any ideas how I could be positive? I have had no symptoms.

I was shocked when I found out I had HSV2 cause I never had symptoms or outbreaks. My gynecologist told me that the virus can lay dormant for years in your system & some ppl are asymptomatic. They may never have symptoms but they can still spread it without knowing. If you've had a cold sore & touched it and then touched your vaginal area you could've gotten it that way. My gyn said that some ppl give HSV2 to themselves that way

Is December the last time that you were tested for hsv until now? It is possible that the IgG antibodies weren't developed yet from your encounter 6-7 weeks previous to that. It's also possible that this was a false positive result, especially since it's pretty low and you haven't had symptoms.

IgG takes at least 12 weeks to give an accurate result. So if you got tested 6-7 weeks after your last sexual partner it would've been negative. As for your partner, female to male transmission is lower so he may have not contracted it or he needs to retest
