Positive HSV2 via swap.. negative blood test & on supressive medication

Posted , 3 users are following.

I was diagnosed with HSV2 at the beginning of December 2015.  1 out of 3 swaps were positive.  I have now had a blood test in April 2016 which was negative for all types of HSV?  I thought it would show up after 4-5 months?

Just wondering if anyone else has had this experience and were you on supressive daily tablets?

I was thinking that maybe being on tablets has stopped my body from developing antibodies.. but my Doctor said she hadn't heard this to be the case.

I don't think there is such thing as a negative swap test and it looked exactly like HSV anyway.

    ..

The swab test is the most accurate one .

So more then likely the virus hasn't hit your blood stream yet ...

It takes 6+ months to detect in your blood system ..

If you took daily suppressive meds early on until now, it could slow/delay seroconversion. People with existing Type 1 (anywhere) may also be slower to seroconvert, apparently.

I guess my body just needs more time then. I don't have type 1 anywhere and I had read that it should show up in the blood after a few months so I was kind of surprised when it didn't.

I actually wanted it to show up as I have been thinking of it like 'I'm protected' since it will mean I'm less likely to get oral cold sores as well as less likely to pass it to other part of my body which I have been concerned about.
