Positive IBS cure/story?

Posted , 14 users are following.

I'm currently on holiday in Spain and I'm struggling! I'm sat in my appartment looking across a beautiful beach and sea scape, but again! feeling unwell and dreading going out for dinner! Its spoiling the holiday for not just myself, but for my wife also! I certainly dont want to bore people with my medical history, but briefly I'm 51 years old and for around eight years I've been trying to find out why I feel sick/tired/constipated/loose and generally unwell for most of the time. I also struggle sleeping on my side and feel sick and have back pain when I try. I also urinate a lot!!! My doctor has diagnosed IBS and I'm currently trying the FODMAP diet, but my question to everyone is: Has anyone ever beaten IBS, or at least got it under control so they can live a decent life. Any positive stories I'm sure would be greatly appreciated for anyone suffering, I'm now going to try to find a FODMAP friendly restaurant! Wish me luck!

and thanks everyone in advance

Gary

    Hi,

I have recently been diagonised with ibs and have constipation, bloating etc.  I am trying gluten free bread at the moment and it seems to be doing the trick, my bloating has gone down considerably and my constipation has seemed to improve.  I am seeing a dietician/nutritionist at the end of Jan about diet, maybe this might be the way to go!  I am also doing pilates with my husband who has a bad back and i have a bad back and pain connected with ibs which i did not know you could get. Why do you not try gluten free foods, i think i could be intolerant to wheat.

      Hi Emma

Thanks for the advise about the bread, I actually asked if gluten free bread was available at breakfast this morn, and it was, I had bacon eggs, fresh tomatos and toast and have been good all day. I think pilates is a good idea, will also give it a shot, thanks very much for the suggestion and hope everything works out well for you

      Thanks

hi again, I am signed up to receive emails from science daily, there is a news article from them today stating that hayfever medications containing ebastine may help reduce ibs symptoms. I've no idea how solid the science is but if you can get to a chemist it might just be worth a try

Hi Gary I have also been suffering with IBS for a few years now. I get tired easily, stomach cramps, bloating, wind, mood swings, general not feeling well, constipation regularly and sometimes the runs... Not fun 🙁 I've found that peppermint tea helps me and recently come across this...

I have bought some peppermint capsules of Amazon too as the reviews have been really good and seemed to help a lot of people that have ibs.

I hope this helps you 🙂

      Hi Clare,

Thank you so much, I've taken peppermint tea before, but not sure if it really helped as I know I was eating things I shouldnt, but now that I'm on the fodmap diet which is going well so far I might add the peppermint in there, really glad its helping you, and thanks again for the advice

    Hello,

I have been suffering from both constipation and diarrhoea for some time now.

I can see that you posted this a while ago, but I wanted to let you know that you can get through this.

I have found from taking vitamin D supplements, cod liver oil tablets and peppermint tablets that my symptoms are much better and manageable. I am it cured but my symptoms are much better. I also take probiotics as well which I for some people haven't worked but if I take a few after a flare up I know that it is better for my body than Imodium and that I can live a normal life without worrying about the bathroom.

I hope this is helpful and remember, don't give up smile

I came down with IBS in 2013. From that point on it was terrible. I had diarrhea constantly, especially when I had caffine. I was going like 20 times a days. But then I got on an antibiotic called Xifaxin in September. I was better in two days. No problems with it since. Incredile.

From what I can tell. Like, I was having awful diarrhea 20 times a day, after I had just about anything but espescially caffine. I would use about an entire roll of toilet paper every time I went. Then I took Xifaxin. After a couple days it was like instantaneous. I went back to normal. I had to remember what normal was again. And that was after three years of all that. Now I go once or twice a day, like a normal person. I use a part of a roll when I go. It's amazing. My GI doctor said sometimes you'll get an infection or something to onset IBS and Xifaxin will cure it in a minority of people. It'll like reset their system.

I just took the Xifaxin and I was better in two days. He had prescribed 14 days worth. I went to like day 10 cause I started to break out from it. I break out from antibiotics sometimes. But that was enough. That's the only thing I ever really tried. I also did have a colonoscopy and some stool and blood tests. All came back negative. That was it.

Can you now eat whatever you want again as well before you developed ibs?

Yup, I drink like 10 cups of coffee a day with no issue, just like I used to
