Positive side of GS

Posted , 1 user is following.

While most of the posts here are on the negative side effects of GS, there are two positive aspects of this genetic mutation: significantly less cardiovascular disease and longer lifespan.

I was aware of both of these GS side effects years ago as they are mentioned in the medical literature (I'm a scientist with GS and expertise in genetics), but the clinical and scientific evidence continues to accumulate and support these two positive effects. The underlying mechanisms are also being explored. E.g., GSers have longer telomeres, which are the components of DNA associated with lifespan. And the antioxidant properties of unconjugated bilirubin are well known. You can find lots articles on this by searching PubMed and other scientific/medical bibliographies.

There are a number of downsides to be sure, but it's comforting to also know that there are some benefits too.
