Just putting some positive thoughts out there to us folks who label our selves insomniacs..is that not a self fulfilling prophecy..we all go through periods of no sleep..so don't worry...I've had my fair share of no sleep and after keeping a sleep diary for six weeks I have only had five nights of 2/3 hrs the rest 5/6/7/8/9/10 hrs a night..so it does get better..not perfect but ok ..who said 8 hrs is the norm anyway..we are all different xxx

Tracey I actually developed sleep dread..because I was so worried about not sleeping

I tried routine..which caused more anxiety and have since read for some people it doesn't work..so that got knocked on head ..I found going for walks even if tired really helped cut out caffeine ..ate really well and basically stopped worrying about not sleeping...for me the fear of dying from lack of sleep became a big issue..so I wrote negative thoughts down..stopped going to bed to early..go bout 12am or later now...even if I get 5 hrs solid that's better than none..I'm thankful for everyday I wake up ..I stopped catastrophising about sleep..kept the sleep journal as well..how many hrs I'd slept and over the weeks my sleep increased...and improved..I think it's totally normal to get a bad night now and again x one more thing no Google looking up effects of sleep deprivation it makes it worse..when I think of all the people who have survived world wars natural disasters etc and not slept.put it in perspective for me xxxxx

All the things you said are exactly how I feel, worry about ill health and even death and I have done the stupid thing of looking on internet for effects of lack of sleep. Might give the walk thing a try and stop spending Soo much time in bed to catch up on lost sleep x

That's the mistake staying in bed Tracey...even if you don't sleep or get little get up the same time everyday....and look after yourself...my Dr said don't let insomnia take the enjoyment out of your life...still do what you love ..just take it slow x

Your Dr is right , life still goes on regardless of how much sleep we do or don't get. Thanks for your advice will take it on board xx

Positivity is a must. Once every 2 days I get less than a few hours or so of sleep. Maybe like 2-4 hours, somewhere around there and it's been happening for a full week now. I dont like to worry about sleep and I try not to but it can be hard at times. There are times where I dont think about it and I would be on my laptop all night looking at videos until I fall asleep eventually or so.

I agree with you, Christine. I usually get 4 to 5 hours of sleep per day. But when I feel my eyes are shutting down, I immediately lie down on the floor or on the couch and take a nap. I can perfectly say I don't really need an 8-hour sleep. I'm fine with it.

I'm in the same boat as everyone here, lacking sleep and constantly worry about my imminent death. I'm still working very hard on this, but I try not to think about sleep, do everything you do normally as if sleeping wasn't ever even a topic of concern. I'm trying to have a mindset that even if I don't get any sleep then let it be, I will sleep eventually, the worse that can happen is death which isn't even likely.

Death impossible, spoke to sleep Drs (Dr guy Meadows) he said our brains wouldn't allow it , it would just eventually sleep. So keep that in mind it may help you even more xx

Yea we are all different, but the ideal time to rest is when your mind is completely fine, no head ache etc... Either 2-12 hours it is all the same. It depends on the person.
