Possibility of herpes?

Posted , 4 users are following.

I received oral from someone a little over 2 weeks ago. It was a one night stand, and I feel like she might have herpes, idk for sure though. Anyways, I have been worried sick ever since and am praying I don't have genital herpes now. I don't have any lesions or ulcers or anything. How common is it to get genital herpes from receiving oral? And do you think I would know for sure by now if I did contract herpes? Would I be in anormous pain and have bumps everywhere down there? Thank you so much

Can I ask what makes you think she even has it ?

Well to be honest, I think she gets around a lot. In fact I know she gets around a lot. It was stupid for me to do stuff with her, but I was drunk and went against my better judgement. I wore a condom for the sex, but like I said she gave me oral for about 5 minutes. I didn't see any sores on her lips or anything but 1.) I wasn't focusing too hard and 2.) It doesn't even matter if it's visible or not

I don't know you can't judge someone by that. I mean a lot of people in the world ( not me thank god) has hsv1 ... But doesn't mean it will spread. I wouldn't worry yourself unless you have a reason too.

Herpes can pass via oral sex, but it is unrelated to promiscuity. Oral herpes is nearly always HSV-1, which most people get as kids!! Symptoms typically occur within 2-20 days (usually a week), so I'm sure you're fine.

I really appreciate it. Thank you. So if I have HSV1 on my genitals, are the symptoms the same as HSV2?

And is the first outbreak of herpes really painful? Like would I DEFINITELY know if I was indeed having an outbreak? Because I don't want my brain playing tricks on me and me not being sure about it.

Yes, the genital symptoms and incubation period et al. are the same for both HSV types, which look identical.

The primary outbreak can vary greatly, from terribly painful, blistery and flu-like to mild like a pimple, yeast infection or jock itch. Some people never show symptoms at all despite having it, but usually such individuals already possess HSV antibodies from a prior infection (e.g., oral HSV-1 as a child).

If you have ever had oral HSV-1, you should be protected from acquiring genital HSV-1, though exceptions exist. Oral HSV-1 affords minimal protection against HSV-2, so it is still a risk, but HSV-2 is nearly always genital, not oral .

I know for a fact I have never had HSV1 prior to the incident. I've been tested over the summer for college.

In that case, you would most likely have shown noticeable symptoms within the first 2-20 days from exposure, and usually within a week.

Would the symptoms most likely be lesions or something that cause pain? Cause when I look to hard I think I see things but it's probably my mind playing tricks on me, and I'm probably over thinking it. But would it be super noticeable to me?

For a primary outbreak without any prior HSV antibodies, you would likely experience one or more lesions, combined with swollen/tender lymph nodes in the groin (on one or both sides).

Lesions can look like a blister, pimple, insect bite or small tear, and usually ulcerate and scab over, especially the blister/pimple variety and if on regular skin like the penis and buttocks.

From the sounds of it, you do not have genital herpes, so I think you can relax. smile And remember, HSV-1 and even HSV-2 does not necessarily mean that someone is promiscuous! wink

    Hi,

Now that you have acquired OH (oral cold sores) it is most unlikely that you would be susceptible to the genital form, your system will have presented a firewall or immunity. That said, there is no room for complacency in that regard and one should take precautions now and into the future.

Also, it is very likely that you could pass your OH to another while active so be careful in that regard and hand hygiene should be common practise due to the amount of times we touch our mouths and faces in a given day.

Also be cognitive of the fact that it is also possible while active to pass OH to another person or loved ones genitals through oral sex.

    Take care.
