Possible blood clot ?

Posted , 9 users are following.

Wondering if I'm developing a blood clot. 3 weeks out from THR (R/S) and I have noticed in the last couple of days sore to the touch inside my thigh, half way between my knee and my crotch. Odd to me because no where near the surgical area.

Any thoughts, should I be concerned and nerves ?

Morning Silvercreek!  signs of blood clot are pain, redness, and swelling in the area.  It could also your adductor muscles are sore from the surgery.  Have you tried icing area?  Also heat helps too.   After surgery as we continue to use our leg more these aches and pains start developing, usually because we haven't used those muscles prior to surgery and just the surgery itself.    Hope you feel better soon.  Hugs 🤗Linda

    Hi Silver creek

I am 4 weeks post op and have the same soreness in the same place. I have taken it to be muscle ache as I increase my activity. Not sure about you but it's the area that swelled most for me just after op. I have no redness or swelling now. If you are swelling/re then I would go to see Dr.

Agree with Saltspringer - if concerned, go to A&E.

Also agree with Linda and Sandra.

I am 3 weeks post-op bilat THR - also have tender areas, 1 of which is mid-inner thigh area - i am assuming muscle ache related as others have said.

But if you are v worried - get it checked. Our bodies have been through major trauma so we will hurt as we try to get back to 'normal' - whatever that may be. 😀 Hope all is well for you.

agree with everyone on getting it checked, they might give you a ultrasound on the leg. I am 10 days post op on THR Right side. I was doing great until day five then my thy swelled to a point I thought it would explode, very sore to touch, started to get a itchy rash, they sent me straight to er for blood clot testing ultra sound. It came back negative. They think I over did some exercise?? but a good relief to know its not blood clot!

    good luck!

    Thanks to all respondents.

I think I'm being somewhat paranoid at this point. There is no swelling or redness in the concerned area. This whole ordeal has been quite stressful for me. Not meaning to repeat myself, at 63 this was my first surgical procedure and didn't know what to expect. I assumed there would be alot of pain in my hip due to what they had to do to replace it, and at this point, has been a piece of cake other than some mild pain and stiffness. It's been everything else, things I never thought about ( gut issues) that's been giving me all the trouble.

I'm due to see my primary tomorrow and will discuss these issues with her.

    Thanks again, SCJ

I am 61yrs and my first surgery too. All been far easier than I thought it would be with mild pain and muscle stiffness. Again like you I have had problems with stomach aches/constipation /diahorrea and nausea.I have just finished my blood thinning injections so hoping that this may ease things. We have been some of the lucky ones with regards the op.

Remember they hammered the stem into your thigh area, it can be sore for quite awhile. I thought I was doing great too since my hip didn't hurt nor is it stiff, but I have had a lot of pains elsewhere. I also got an IT Band inflammation from doing too much too soon, unless you are in fantastic shape and are at least 3 months post op, go slow and easy. Ice and elevate if sore or swelling. Take time to care for yourself. Even though the hip itself might feel fine this was major surgery and there is a lot to heal that you don't see. I was told that between month 3 and 5 recovery will go faster.
