Possible chronic pancreatis

Hi, have not been diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis, however, something is up with either my liver or pancreas, i have fat in my stool after testing , doctors says its mild increase in fat, i cant see any fat but my stools are just looser and more bulky than before, sometines float sometimes not, just wondering what others experience, very sorry its not a nice topic, been seeing many docs and cant get to the bottom of it yet, i have had a normal mri, normal CT, i dont really have pain, just wondering as well does anyone get really dehydrated dry skin urinating a lot dry eyes etc?

Any info will be helpful, really worried and scared but trying my best to hold it together, i fear pancreatitis after all ive read.

Thanks

Andrew

I have Chronic Calcific Pancreatitis and when my main pancreatic duct was totally occluded by a 8mm stone, no enzymes were making their way into the small intestines for breakdown of fats, protein etc. Your pancreas as you probably already know serves several purposes but the main two are endocrine and exocrine function. Endocrine meaning making glycogen for the production and secretion of our insulin, etc. and exocrine as your enzymes Lipase, Amylase and Tripase. When there is fat in your stools they are very foul smelling, loose, foamy and indeed float. It sounds as though you could be having exocrine problems of the enzymes. If so, ask your Dr. if he recommends you being put on pancreatic enzymes. I forget the name of the ones I took, but I took like 3 before, 2 during and 2 after each meal or snack. I would be sure to follow up with this and make certain that you are not experiencing some type of secreting problems. The best and most accurate test there is, is usually an EUS. Are your enzymes within normal limits? They keep a close check of my Lipase and Amylase. Many feel that if your pancreatic enzymes are not elevated, then you aren't having a pancreatic attack. And this is not always true. Your enzymes usually only spike for a short period of time and can be normal even though you may be having problems. I wish you well. Please keep us updated. I'd love to know what your Lipase level is.

Hi, Thanks a lot for responding, my stool sometimes smell a bit foul yes and they are very loose, a bit foamy etc, my lipase levels are 36 as of May this year the last time i checked. I had what i believe was a pancreatic attack in 2014 twice, but it was so mild i did not even think about it i was in Caracas and thought id picked up a bug, First time i was on antiinflammatory tablets for a problem with my back, i went out for a Steak meal and had some red wine, i developed nausea and watery diarreah, that was it, watched what i ate for a couple of days stayed off liguor etc and back to normal, that was Feb, 2014, in July i went back to Caracs to a wedding, had two drinks and became viloently nauseas with vomiting and liquid foul smelling diarreah, i made it back to my hotel and was on the toulet for the night, my stomach was very upset and agin i thought it was my stomach, that i picked up a bug as my daughter got ill as well, i returned home talked to my Doctor and they checked enzymes which were normal andd was disnissed, again i recovered by just eating a liquid diet in a few days, people tell me if it were pancreatitis i would know as the pain would be very bad, i never had that. But someting is wrong, i went to mayo clinic in May of this year as my stools are diffrent, thats when the fecal fat test was done, so i suspect it is pancreatitis that has become chronic, i am so scared as i heard it is terrible, and i know that there is no fixing this, can i ask you, how to you get by? is there hope for me? my wife is expecting this year and i am so depressed, i have stooped drinking any alcholol, and imm trying to get a diagnoisis which i know can be difficult in early pancreatitis.

Again thank you so much for responding.

If you stop drinking and if you smoke or vape, stop the nicotine I promise you will be fine. Man you're in good hands at Mayo. That's where I flew to. I live in the south, AL. Drs there are great. I've had Chronic Calcific Pancreatitis since I was diagnosed in 2009 and have done GREAT. IM not on any meds at all. You may need some enzyme replacements if you are loosing weight. Are you? If not, your enzymes are flowing ok and not backing up into your pancreas. You apparently don't have any obstructions. Other than pain for some, I'm one of 17% who seldom experiences pain. I've had a few flare ups. But you have to stop alcohol totally or you're asking for trouble. You can have a few beers and wine some, just in moderation. How are you physically.

thanks, i checked the message, i was losing wreight initially but seemed to have stabilized, stopped smoking byears ago dont smoke or vape only vice i had was red wine up to 5 months ago and quit, whe you say i can have wine in moderation? you mean a couple glasses a week? spoke to my doc From mayo on the phone she says fat in stool is very mild, but still she does not know what is causing it, said i could have some wine as does not think this is pancreatitis or my liver, i am hesitant to agree, had 1 glass wine last night after she said it was ok, today very very soft stool and Dark green as well, been to the loo twice already, no pain though, so i dont know, fat in stolol does not just happen. what do u think, im very encouraged by your words, do you drink at all?

      regards.
