Possible ETD caused by allergy?

Posted , 4 users are following.

Hello, new here so please bare with me.

I have suffered with tinnitus since September, ears crackle when I swallow/yawn and have had bouts of dizziness. I have a dust mite allergy which I use nasal sprays for (Avamys being one of them). It’s had a massive impact on my social life as the thought of going to loud places makes me cringe, don’t want it to get worse (not great for a 21 year old). Anyone in a similar situation or any advice would be helpful! Thanks😊

Hello and yes.  Lots of us on this Forum suffer ETD with Tinnitus.  Blocked ears alone can cause tinnitus.

I too suffer allergies due to dust mite and take a daily antihistamine that works for me, along side steroid

nasal drops.  If you're finding that Avamys isn't working that well ask for Flixonase, which in the past helped

    me.

You have Eustachian Tube Dysfunction (ETD) which can make us feel dizzy.  Maybe it was loud music

that brought your tinnitus on......I don't think young peole realise this.

Thank you Anne. I don’t have blocked ears only once in a blue moon. I will mention about the flixonase at my ENT appointment as I’m currently on a long waiting list.

It sounds as though you're in the UK....if so just ring your surgery and get them to change the

prescription.  Ive done that many times.

So glad to read you're not suffering ETD.....that's a big bonus.  I's able to put up with my tinnitus,

it's just when my ears block it's such a miserable condition.  However, for the time being I'm happy

to announce that apart from using my medication only once a week, that's keeping the ETD at bay.

My ENT consultant told me at my appt. last week, if it's helping me, I must continue with what I'm

      doing.

Ah great I will do that. I’ve been told by my GP that I have fluid behind the eardrum but no more information just a referral to see an ENT specialist. Googling syptoms geared me towards ETD although my ears don’t tend to feel blocked often. I’m glad to hear that the medication is helping and that you feel better Anne.

Hi  Lora 12 .So sad to hear you're joining us at such a young age.Sadly there isn't much advice going about  that is much good.Certainly no sympathy either, because there is nothing to see or feel for anyone who doesn't experience it on a daily basis.Loud noises & people who talk over you are not easy to cope with  either. To sufferers like us it seems quite a simple thing to treat or cure, but so far the doctors are very much in the dark.

Sorry to hear that you are in a similar situation. It’s had a very negative impact on my life, and there doesn’t seem to be many positive outcomes for many people and doctor’s don’t understand as you stated.
