Possible hip replacement after 14 months of waiting URGENT

Hi.

I broke my hip over a period of a year (a slow break) at the head of the femur and in June 2019 I had a metal plate and a dynamic hip screw put in.

Then I ended up at the rehabilitation facility for 10 weeks and wasn't doing too badly but unfortunately after I was discharged during my recovery I suffered a broken rib (caused by travelling in transport with very poor suspension whilst being transported for dialysis)

So beginning of March 2020 I was admitted to hospital and was there for a month just laid on a bed, all physio stopped and I got out beginning of April but unfortunately covid happened and my appointment with the consultant at Doncaster Royal infirmary was cancelled indefinitely as was a planned hip replacement.

The reason for the planned hip replacement was because the dynamic hip screw, more specifically the metal plate, some of the screws were coming out of the bone but as I said covid happened and anything other than life threatening injuries all surgery was cancelled.

Now I've finally been seen today but by a different consultant and he's told me after looking at the xray taken today that the metalwork in his words has 'collapsed' and also that the hip hasn't healed, which I'm struggling to believe purely because when I was seen February 2020 I was told that it had, now I'm told that it hasn't which seems very strange.

All I've been doing is laid on a bed 24/7 for the last year so I'm unsure how the metalwork has collapsed as well because I've not put any weight on it.

Also he discussed the hip replacement and his main reason for not doing it was because I could get an infection also that it may not work because I have weak bones due to kidney failure and associated conditions but surely taking the metalwork out there's a risk of infection as well?

The thing is I'm absolutely determined to walk again and I have no issues with my right hip or leg (so far) and I'm struggling to accept that my left hip hasn't healed even if it's only partially healed, because I was told without a doubt that my rib would never heal but it DID!! Here's the thing I haven't seen the xray and I think because I was told my rib wouldn't heal and it did that I've been told my hip hasn't healed but the previous consultant said it had so I'm struggling to believe it hasn't.

Also the reason being given about risk of infection, they're wanting to admit me next Thursday to take out the metal work and see what's what, whatever that means.

My main question is, is there anyone on here with weak bones successfully had a hip replacement and learnt to walk again?? Please reply to this if you have.

Because I'm massively determined to walk again and I'll do anything., I have 2 children that I need to recover for.

I look forward to your replies.

Thank you.
