Possible HIV symptoms. Please help answer

Hi there, I'm a 32yr old male. I was possibly exposed to HIV 6 weeks ago. I just sex with a sex worker using condom. However, my penis urethra felt pain at the end of the sex. Now I'm having muscle aches and soreness on my thighs and arms for about a week already. I had mouth sore (healed in a few days) and a mild flu. Is it early sign of HIV symptoms? Your answer is very much appreciated. Thank you!

I'm really worried. The ache and soreness is getting worse today. Shoulder joints kinda hurt also

This could be a number of issues - with HIV being the most extreme. Particularly as you wore protection - although not guaranteed.

Have you had any night sweats? Lymph nodes enlarged?

It's unlikely, but you should go to STI clinic and get a 4th gen HIV test. You may just have a simple infection.

I sweat at night recently but no lymph nodes enlarged.

What kind of sweating? Profuse/drenching and with no elevated room temperature or mild which could be anxiety?

Perhaps you might have a bacterial infection.

I suspect you are worrying unnecessarily but as you are experiencing symptoms get the doctors to give you a once over. Have a normal blood test FBC/CBC and also U&E would be beneficial and LFT perhaps. But the U&E may have some answers. Of course, if sexual contact is suspected get a full STI check otherwise you will just be worrying for weeks or months!

I would say the night sweat is mild. I'm just worried because I was quite drunk that night but I believe the condom didn't break. my legs and arms soreness is killing me. Is muscle soreness common for early HIV symptoms?

last night the night sweat was quite excessive and having a sore throat now. My thighs and arms are still aching and sore. moreover the skin feel like burning. I'm really worried.

thats all your anxiety. its been 6 week just test now. you are fine. try to involve yourself in some activity so this thought wont come in mind. that will stop night sweats and body pain.

If you used a condom its very unlikely, i still recommend getting tested, new tests can be done in as little as 20 min. As for your symptoms its always hard to tell, HIV has SO MANY SYMPTOMS that are common across everything. I thought I had been exposed several years ago, i was young and didn't have good sex habits, (swollen glands, profuse sheet drenching night sweats, flu like symptoms) but i tested negative. The anxiety I was under was more dangerous to my health than anything. You also need to realize that there is life after HIV also, it is no longer the death sentence that it once was back in the 80's. I have many positive friends who live joyous and adventurous lives, and even have significant other that are negative! Please get tested, but also please try to ease your mind. If you live in the US there is an at home HIV oral test (nearly identical to oral tests used at the doctors) but they are only effective if the exposure occurred in the past 12 weeks (3 Months). I hope this helps, and please i cannot stress enough PLEASE GET TESTED!

Hi, thank you for your help. I really hope it's nth. As for my current symptoms, my shoulder joints still hurt, my arm muscles still ache, my thighs still sore/pain. I still have sore throat and my night sweats is quite bad but not drenching. We are in lockdown due to covid-19 so I can not go out for HIV testing.

Hi Anny, I'm pretty sure it's not covid-19 or flu. I have been quarantine for the past 2 weeks.
