Possible HSV2 / Herpes infection. Your answers appreciated.

This event that has troubled me for years and happened in November 2005, some 8 years ago in the Far east. I had an encounter with a dubious woman in the hotel I was staying at. It wasn't intercourse, just a drunken fumble, but I fear enough was done to warrant tests etc.

Within 2-3 days of the incident I experienced the following symptoms:

Swollen glands in the groin area, the neck and in the armpits. These areas also ached. I was also running a high temperature with sweats.

The groin area also displayed a number of yellow head pussy spots, similar to that of either acne or ingrowing hairs.

This was diagnosed as jock itch/fungal infection by UK Doctors, but I was never convinced by this.

After a period of approx. 2-3 weeks the groin area then also diplayed 2 fairly big red spots (pimple like) on either side of the groin which did not blister, but were very sore.

(B) The next set of symptoms were:

- Aching joints mainly knee and ankle. As also a stiff neck. No back pain.

- An underskin rash, the area would be red, just like what happens when you are pinched in the area. But it would remain this way for a short while.

- Chronic sore throat with heavy nasal congestion. No cough. The roof of my mouth blistered (herpangina is the word to describe it I think) and left 2 spots that remain on the roof of the mouth today.

- The mouth also became extremely dry, as did the eyes, with NO saliva production for a short period. I was also unable to stay in any light.

Eventually after 2-3 months, all the above symptoms (under B) cleared up.

Within 2-3 months after the incident approx. February 2006 onwards I experienced:

- Ongoing skin crawling, this was diagnosed as Peripheral Neuropathy and diagnosed by UK Doctors as Guillane Barre Syndrome.

The skin crawling remains today and is all over the body. But is mainly located in the lower extremities, but is all over the body.

- I also suffer periodic muscle, or these maybe nerve twitches, where the muscles in my arms and legs flap. This usually occurs in the arms and legs but also chest area.

- Also the white area of an eye will also turn read, near bloodshot and never fully red. Just the bottom of the eye usually and is never painful or sore, just noticeable.

I have also experienced slight rectal bleeding which was diagnosed as piles/haemorroids. This was and is not to date in any way painful. But I read this can be a misdiagnosis for Herpes.

Anyhow, after 3-6 months of ongoing STD tests such as HIV and all the others on the radar I tested negative. And life resumed, but still experiencing all the symptoms above under (B)

However, a few weeks ago (8 years after the event) I had sex and my penis began to burn on the tip and a few days later some blisters appeared, which were in a row and not painful.

These have since started to heal and did not form any ulcers. A few days later on the left side of my groin in a skin fold there is a raw area of skin, which is not too painful and

hasn't blistered. It is just raw tender skin. I have read that this could be Genital Herpes/HSV2.

I also suffered with Sciatica earlier this year, and read this is a symptom of prodrome.

I have gone for tests and await results, but given my worry and this helpful forum and all that I have read on it, I would really appreciate your thoughts on this.

Any comments appreciated.

Hi that is alot of different symptoms and herpes is sometimes so easy to misdiagnose the best way to test is swabbing from the blisters

Saying this i also had the problem with my mouth which they told me was some kind if infection amoxicillin did nothing so had some stronger that was for blood infection and this also did nothing

A few weeks after that i had sores down below and was dignosed with herpes type 2 in november

To me it sounds like herpes but saying that there are a million other things it could be its just odd that it happened after you slept with someone

I hope you get the answers soon i know how frustrating it can be not knowing x

    Hi,

Can anyone please tell or help me with a question please.

If I have HSV2 / Genital Herpes and I transmitted this to my partner, why she has never had an outbreak? As she has to date, had no genital sores, and her paps have not recognised anything. As I read that usually herpes / hsv2 will outbreak on the female genitalia, but my partner has had no blisters on her vagina or cervix etc. Would this usually happen if infected with HSV2 ? Or is it also in a latent, yet to activate stage? as mine was.

    Any comments appreciated.

HSV2 can be in your system years before becoming 'active', you could have transmitted it to her but her immune system could simply be denying it to form a proper outbreak, certain triggers (stress, lack of sleep and bad diet are triggers amongst other things). the only was to get a proper diagnosis is when you are currenly having an outbreak, it wont always appear on blood tests and they also swap the area when blisters are formed to make sure its 100% clear that it is HSV2

My partner has never had an outbreak either we have been together nearly 5 years and didnt have sex 3 months before i had an outbreak theres so many things that can trigger an outbreak but i was told that if someone has had coldsores they will already have antibodies against herpes virus this is what has happened to my boyfriend he used to suffer really bad with them when he was younger they also said that i most likely caught herpes from him but i got type 2 instead its possible that he now has type 2 aswell but may never have an outbreak due to already having antibodies x

Everyone seems to experience herpes in different ways - there are no concrete answers unfortunately

I myself first noticed at a time when I had not been with anyone for over a year - it was very odd.

Neil - your numerous symptoms can be caused by many things. I have Peripheral Neuropathy (numbness in toes) which I am certain was caused by taking satins for high cholesterol, so I stopped taking them - unfortunately you can not reverse the effect.

As for herpes I think you are incorrect about the blood test. As far as I can tell this is the only way to be sure you have or do not have herpes - the problem is that your body takes time to build up antibodies against the virus and so testing within 3 months of contracting the disease can give false negatives - so it is best to test again after 3 months more, if given a negative test and you think you may have it.

Swab tests can give positive results also but they can also give false negatives.

I strongly advise people that although very frustrating it is really no good to dwell on the who?,when?,how? of the situation. It will drive you mad and make you depressed

The reality is you can never be certain of how or when you got it, so focus on the future

Best of luck to you all

Hi, I got hsv2 in August 2013 (Almost 1 year ago) from a cheating ex. When I first got it I had swollen glands in my pelvic area and had the blisters/rash near my vaginal area. When I went into the hospital,  my doctor told me it's non curable,  but there are medications you can take to prevent outbreaks. She also said the longer I go with it, the less likely to have an outbreak. Since then I've yet to have another horrible outbreak but, I do get a bump (or pimple) in that area every few months.   And after a few pills and 2 days later it's gone.

I also thought I would be able to  conceive children in the future. But my doctor reassured me that I can still give birth with out complications.  I can even have a natural birth with out the baby being infected as long as there is no outbreak at the time of birth.

I was mostly worried about dating again. I didn't want to infect anyone and ruin their lives as my ex did mine. And it took me sometime to get over it. But after I did I got back out there and surprisingly other men were ok with it. Currently I am in a relationship. Me and my partner has had unprotected sex. And luckily enough he hasn't been infected.  And honestly if he hasn't gotten it now, I don't think he will.

Now I'm sure my case which is probably very rare, doesn't apply to everyone.  Yes hsv 1 and hsv 2 is a horrible std to have.  But it's not the ed of the world.

Hope this has helped anyone looking for some answers!
