Possible Linchen Sclerosis

I recently saw a vulva specialist. After a lengthy discussion and exam, she thinks it may be Linchen Sclerosis although she did not rule out vulvodynia. My symptoms are white skin surrounding the clitoris and redness on the rest of the vulva. I have burning and soreness - no itching. She prescribed CLOBETASOL twice daily for a month and then once daily for 2 weeks. I also use baking soda sitz bathx to ease the symptoms. The Dr. also prescribed a Lidocaine 5% ointment. She told me to mix it with coconut oil or Aquaphor since using it alone can cause severe burning. To be honest I have not used it yet since I am afraid it may make the symptoms worse. I see the specialist again in mid December.

Can anyone give me some advice? If you use something different for this disease, please let me know. Thank you.

Hi maryann, it does sound like you have LS.

The first line treatment for white plaques of skin is the steroid cream which can be very effective in knocking back a flare and erasing the white plaques of skin. I am not sure if you are using it or not, but at this stage it is best to go with what your specialist recommends. Once you have gotten things under control you can always look at other ways to control your LS.

With regard to the Lidocaine, it is not something I have ever used, but I think I would just focus on using one cream at a time and that would be the steroid cream in the hope of getting your undercarriage looking and feeling better.
