Possible Osteoporosis?

Posted , 7 users are following.

HI

Have recently had a fracture to my wrist but after a fall.  Also had a fractured coccyx several years ago that is still hurting.

Am worried about osteoporosis? Can I request a bone scan?

Also had IBS since 18 and told to avoid dairy but given no calcium supplements.  Have always had a smalll frail frame.

Any thoughts?

Coincidentally just now, I just received an extensive article from another health source I deal with and if you would like to have it sent to you, I would via email if you want to give me your email in a PM....

It's all about healty bone support.   There are many foods too to consider like sardines with bones.  I eat them on occasion and chew the bones...but don't eat them often, I like sardines thou.

Hi that would be helpful thank you.  How can I privately post my email?

I was referred by a specialist for a DEXA scan which proved helpful in obtaining other treatment.  Seek a referral from your GP.  Good luck.

A friend on another health group I've known for  many years deals with osteoporosis and  she is a small frame thinner woman, one of the supplements she adds to  her arsenal for bone support is Strontium...I have it and take some now and then, do a search for it.   I don't know if she takes a drug or not, don't remember....I know she is  up on magnesium big time as I've talked about mineral for a lotta years...

Other bone minerals which I was low in are:  manganese, molybdenum and vanadium...check them out.  Joy

I just did a lot more reading of the Strontium and there are many links to read about it....one MD actually here in So. Calif. advises 1 cap twice a week, with breakfast....  2 hrs away from calcium is advised always...so do your own research if there is an interest...J

Before you take anything read up on the side effects, and you probably won't take it. Strontium can cause pulmonary embolism, so I wouldn't take it. Calcium carbonate and citrate is made from limestone and cause heart disease and heart attacks, as I already have heart disease I will take sea calcium from seaweed if I need it. I found out I was allergic to the normal Vitamin D3 which is from lanolin (I have allergy Asthma) so I've managed to find a Vegan D3. I have to be so careful with my Asthma and Heart disease. My hip t score was -0.9 wich is normal and my spine was -2.4 which is osteopeania, on the verge of osteoporosis, so now I'm giving up worrying, and there's no way I'm ever taking bisphonates, the side effects are too scary for me.

      Hi Pinkcat

      Thats good news

Not so good about the anemia.......horrible tabletseek  I'm taking them at the minute

Dont forget laxatives while you take themwink

Prune juice is a natural one that I buy rather than meds the docs dish out

Vit C needs to be taken with iron for absorption results...some iron tabs have Vit C in them but most don't so one needs to make sure to take C with Iron....I take extra C during the day anyway..but on days I take extra 50mg iron that I take, I take 500mg C with it at the same time.

Magnesium is critical for keep the constipation and so much more under control.....most prune juice contains sugars....I have a bottle of the juice in the refrig from early  hip replacement days.....never used it as mag is my salvation.   I do buy organic prunes though and eat them some days....   Joy

      Hi Joy

The iron is temporary.....will go for blood tests in about a week to see if i need to stay on them for another course.

All my irons are good, but it's Ferritin (stored irons) that I take some iron on occasion.....I had been very low for years on the Ferritin and my recent labs showed an 87, where as I've been 20's and 30's over the years....so I'm happy about that, as what I take is a 50mg tab type iron with Vit C, but not daily....a couple times per week.   Joy

Yes magnesium citrate is great for constipation, I take it along with Aloe Vera juice because I also have alternating constipation and diarrhea IBS. I'm a medical wreck.
