Possible pilonidal cyst?

Hi, everyone.

I'm a fifteen year old girl, and I believe I have a pilonidal cyst on my tailbone. I started having pain in the area a few days ago, so I checked it out, and discovered a small circular area that was bleeding. Ever since then, a lot of pus came out, and now it's back to bleeding. I haven't really gotten a great look at it, but it looks kind of like a little dark circle, similar to pictures I found. However, a lot of people describe a bump or something of the sort when it comes to pilonidal cysts. I did think I felt something when I was trying to figure out what it was, but when I went to actually look at it in the mirror, it was already bleeding, and there wasn't a bump. I just thought maybe it was a cut or something (though I don't know how I would've gotten one). Now the area has started to get a little red, and it hurts to sit or lean certain ways.

I guess the main thing I want to know is if I should try to go to the doctor or if it's even infected. I know pus is a sign of infection, so that's the main reason I'm worried. There doesn't appear to be more than one. I'm kind of embarrassed about it, so I wanted a second opinion before I try to tell my mom.

Hiya, just read your post and I would say definitely tell your mum and go get it checked out. If it is a PS , which sounds like it could be, it's definitely best to get something done early. It's more common than you think so don't be embarrassed !! Good luck

Yes it is infected. When it gets to that point you need antibiotics. Don't be embarrassed it can be much worst. In the future when you feel one coming on. Soak in hot tub, then apply castor oil, tee tree oil and honey 1-2 times daily and i promise it will go away before its infected. But you have to catch it early.
