Had a horrible attack last night after eating pizza. Nausea and vomiting and pain that went into my chest. Thought I was having a heart attack. Went to the ER and ultrasound showed no stones but mabey some sludge but doc dident seem to sure. Sent home and told to follow up with OB and said they wouldn't do anything while I was pregnant. Said it seemed like gallbladder wasent functioning. Not sure what to do. Tummy is sore and still fill sick to my stomach. Anyone out there have this whole pregnant?

Yes your prego, did you ask the dr if you can take an acid, like tums or something. That might relieve some of the pain. I got the same last night. I had gallbladder surgery in Feb. Had it removed. Until I rolled over and had alot of gas.

Hi Kathryn, this seems to happen alot when people are pregnant, just make sure that you don't eat high fat foods, spicy foods as these will give you horrendous pain as you've already experienced. Try eating smaller amounts more often throughout the day. When I had gallbladder problems I found that eating plain simple food was the easiest to tolerate. How far pregnant are you? I expect that they do some more tests once you've had the baby. Sludge can cause the problems you're having.

I found jacket potatoes, simple pasta or rice dishes but nothing rich at all.

I hope this helps as you'll need to be careful with pain meds until you've had the baby.

Let me know how you get on. Take care xx

It is common that gallstones rear their head during pregnancy. In fact it is one of the factors junior doctors are told to consider when patients present with abdominal pain: Female? Fair? Fat? Forty? And Fertile?

I have heard of pregnant women having surgery, but obviously best to hold off if you can.

My advice is to eat a diet low in fat and eat several smaller meals rather than three main meals. Avoid baked goods except for wholemeal bread and avoid processed foods like bacon and sausages. Definitely do not eat any take away meal as they're always high in fat.

Try to plan surgery for as soon after delivery as possible.

Thanks for all the replies. I called my OB and he suggested diet change witch I have been doing. I have lost about 7 lbs since that attack so I'm worried as I am now 15 weeks pregnant and should be gaining.

With gallbladder issues most people do lose a lot of weight. This is mainly down to eating a low fat diet but also sickness and diarrhoea, pain, lack of appetite, and being nil by mouth for many procedures and investigations. Try not to worry about the baby. Most weight gain in pregnancy should come towards the end anyway, and, so long as you are eating healthily the baby won't suffer.

    Hi Kathryn,

I wasn't pregnant I'm afraid, however I do sympathise with the pain and pizza.  I had an awful attack after eating pizza.  I ended up in the ER.  Gallstones were detected and lots of sludge, but to be honest pregnant or not they won't do anything about it. They just sent me home.  It's so frustrating.  I found the best thing for me was literally not to eat anything but soup and dried toast for a couple of days.
