    Dear Samantha,

Yes, it is Herpes Zoster-Shingles, even if the rash has not appeared. Please see a clinician today and start antivirals immediately. You also will need strong analgesics to help with the pain that is certain to increase. Please take off from work as you cannot power through this disease.

Think you need to see a doctor who will do a full check-over but it certainly sounds like it could be Shingles as it is not uncommon to get these kind of symptoms before the rash appears - especially if you've had Shingles in the same place before.

Please go to an ophthalmologist today!

    STAT STAT STAT

Your eye is infected with Herpes Zoster-Shingles!

You can have Shingles without the rash. It is called Zoster Sine Herpetic. This is an eye emergency.

Many physicians are abysmally ignorant regarding Shingles. That is an understatement.

I know about shingles as I have had recurrent Herpes Zoster-Shingles every three weeks in my ear, mouth, and throat for the past 23 years, and more recently on my scalp. I have had it in my eye twice. The pain is excruciating.

The reason I am so active on this forum is so many physicians cannot diagnose Shingles accurately, nor treat it properly. Ask for Famcyclovir 500 mg 10 days of treatment, as it is more efficacious, rather than Acyclovir for treatment.
