Possible tongue cancer ?

Hi about 4 weeks go the back right side of my tongue was sore to more and this quickly evolved into a swollen tongue towards the front left side of my tongue with a couple of ulcers underneath. Very annoying and gradually the tongue has now come down however I have a very solid 1cm thin lump left on the under side of the actual tongue towards the tip around where the ulcer was. My researching of ventral (under toungue meaning) comes up as possible cancer etc as it’s more than three weeks. Would tongue cancer start this way or could I just be an infection. I’m a 44 year old male smoker

It's understandable that you are concerned about the lump on your tongue. However, without a proper medical evaluation, it is impossible to determine the exact cause of the lump. It could be due to an infection, but it could also be due to other factors, including well cancer.

I would highly recommend that you make an appointment with a doctor or an otolaryngologist (a specialist in ear, nose, and throat disorders) for a thorough examination and to discuss your symptoms and medical history. They may perform a biopsy to determine the cause of the lump and to rule out cancer.

It's also important to note that smoking can increase the risk of oral cancer. If you have concerns about your health, quitting smoking is a positive step you can take.
