Possible UC?

hello All. My name is Zoë and I have just joined this site.

For quite some time I have been having bleeding when opening my bowls along with sometimes severe left sided abdomen pain though I didn't link the two. Last May my GP diagnosed me with an anal fissure.

since then I've had several episodes of being very unwell. It starts with severe stomach cramps, I usually also vomit (but only once). I then progress to diorhhea with severe pain, sweating, feeling faint. After a while the diorhhea turns to blood - this comes out when I have cramps just the same as diorhhea does. The bleeding like this typically lasts a couple of days. The pains last for days on end - it takes me ages to recover but I do have constant abdomen, side and lower back pain. My bowel habits have changed and I now do stinks can go days without opening my bowels. I do often have bright fresh blood. Also get urgency where I have to rush to the toilet.

I saw a specialist yesterday who says he suspects UC but upon looking into my rectum/lower bowel he said he can see nothing sinister. He has recommended a colonoscopy to find out what's going on.

i have read up a bit on UC and from what I've read it seems that UC affects the colon and rectum. Is that in all cases that the rectum is affected as my specialist said mine looks ok (no evidence now if the anal fissure either). So does that mean it's not UC? Are my symptoms typical?

Thank you in advance for your replies.

Hi Zoe. I got diagnosed about 2 weeks ago now with uc. I had nothing for years then one weekend on the Friday I was doubled over in agony from the left side and passing pure red blood during every plain. I went to a out of hours doctor and she didn't really say anything other than take samples to my go asap. They rang back and booked me straight in to doctors. Then refured me to Kingston hospital. I have experienced all your symptoms and feel for you deeply but reading on if I have seen lists of different experiences so I wouldn't rule it out.

Hope u find out asap and get help with it.

Hi Dottie89, thanks for your reply and I'm really sorry to hear about your suffering and recent diagnosis. Can I ask what has happened since your diagnosis? Have you been put on medication? Do you need to have regular check ups?  My head is all over the place at the moment.

I'm so sorry to hear that Barbara. That's terrible and sleep deprivation is the worst. Have you tried taking over the counter sleeping pills or Nytol? You really need to rest. I think my symptoms are nothing compared to yours.x

    Hi Zoe,

sorry to hear of your illness it sounds like UC to me, When you have had a colonoscopy you will know alot more. Marie was diagnosed early jan/15 and is now on all her meds. Your colonoscopy is fairly straight forward but it will tell you whats wrong the sooner the better then they can treat it.

We both feel for you text us any time you like

Good luck Jon and Marie 13689

Hi Zoe I'm so sorry to hear your going through this. I had most of the symptoms you had but not much pain if I'm honest. I am always tired and sometimes light headed. I have constant dark blood almost like a period passing from the back passage, then bright fresh blood after I wipe away.

I was diagnosed with UC in January of this year and got a flexible sigmoidoscopy.. I got my biopsy results which were "inconclusive" to wether it was UC or crhones disease. They now want to do further tests and I'm completely fed up ive been bleeding co stand since last gust however the medication they have given me is definetly working!!

I'm hopefully going to see of I can get out of this next colonoscopy as I feel the mess are working

Good luck I hope you get a conclusion

And always try and think positive the hardest part about this is your mind goes into overdrive! If you can get your head in a good place that's half the battle!!

Hi Zoe sorry I'm just getting back to you I didnt see this comment!

How are you feeling about everything?

I went to the doctor and told him how I was feeling as when I went to the hospital I felt like the nurse was really ovwr the top and in my face then they took bloods and she told me she would call me with the results to see if I'm anemiC which she never! I was getting bloods last week to check if I needed to use the saloflak foam .. But before I got the results the nurse said oh just get them anyways

So.. I spoke to the doctor and just explained that I really didn't want to go back to the hospital.. In a nut shell he said basically just go back to my appointment.. Because if I don't then they won't contact me again

Even though I feel fine n look so healthy honestly i really look fine-he said that its longterm we need to think about

If I get a flare up again I could experience no pain but then there could be a time when I end up in agony - and I must have Jinxed myself because my stomach and down at my back passage was Sooo sore last night!!!!

The doctor had no corospondance from the hospital so he said I should take the foam anyways!

So I tried the foam last night !!! Ehhh uncomfortable!! And I'm not dissing anyone .. But a lot of people say they can't keep the tablet or foam up there but I think it's mind iver matter!!!

The bleeding I had was minimal and now it's back worse again after the foam!!

So how I know I definetly need thw other colonoscopy just incase the inflammation had spread and I do need to see if I have crones or UC

Totally fed up but there's worse off people than me!!
