Possibly Fibromyalgia? Who else has these related problems?

Hello everyone, this is my first post! I joined yesterday. I have been diagnosed with IBS and since that didn’t fit the rest of my symptoms of pain, I started looking online for conditions that are commonly associated with IBS and learned about Fibromyalgia which fits so many of my problems! Along with that, I learned that my TMJ is also a common issue associated with Fibromyalgia. I was wondering who else has these three issues since I have read that they are statistically highly associated with each other and if it was quicker to be diagnosed with fibromyalgia knowing that you had TMJ and IBS diagnosis already. I get all over body pain, burning, deep dull aching, horrible memory and anxiety, along with horrible fatigue. What kinds of medications do you take? Do they make you sleepy or nauseous? I’ve been  on different pain medications before my diagnosis of IBS and realization that I most likely have fibromyalgia but most of them make me tired and nauseous, not something I can use when I have three children, two of which go to school. I would love to hear from anyone and everyone! Thank you!

    HI!

I was diagnosed almost three years ago. it started with pain all over my body especially waking up - my body feels like its frozen and like everything inside is stiff and painful. sleeping problems and just random pain all over the body. I always had problems with my stomach but never thought it had something to do with it... and i have TMJ the last year and a half and it's horrible sad it's painful to eat and sometimes when i talk loud as well... I don't take medication except for when its really bad i have a pain killer ZALDIAR which is very lite so it doesn't help that much... I try to relax and sleep well and eat organize and healty, i tried physical therapy for the jaw but it felt too painful to me so i don't know if i'll keep doing it... tried acupuncture and it didn't help but i think it was because i didn't have time for it and only did it once a week or even once every 2 weeks...

so i'm not really helping you sorry but just wanted you to know you're not alone.

    Hi Everyone,

I am newly diagnosed but I have had all the symptoms aside from being told I have TMJ but that actually makes sense to me now because I do have jaw pain frequently now. I have had a lot of problems with IBS and have actually had a lot of taste changes and find myself not even being able to stand eating meat some days (some of the taste changes are from meds), I have pain, spasms, and aches all over and have had these issues for the last two years. I also have chronic migraine that was my initial symptom as well as neck stiffness and pain. I have had anxiety and depression since I was a kid but since getting fibromyalgia mine has become a lot worse. Currently I am taking Cymbalta which is an antidepressant and a pain reliever prescribed for fibro so kind of like killing two birds with one stone lol. I also take Buspar for anxiety. I take Tizanidine (muscle relaxer) at night for spasms and pain, it knocks you out for a little but it's a half life pill so it doesn't help you stay asleep all night. And lastly, I take Depakote for daily migraine preventative (also can be used to help some with anxiety). I still have a lot of pain and stuff going on but it is so much worse without. And I know what you mean about keeping up with kids as I have two and struggle to keep up with them.

I hope this helps and feel free to ask me anything!

    Have a blessed daysmile

Thanks for the replies guys! I feel better knowing I’m not alone. I’ve had TMJ since I was 16 & I’m 29 now. It’s not as bad now since I know what to do with it locking up on me and What side to avoid chewing food on. I will say it’s embarrassing when I eat or yawn because you can hear my jaw popping out of where it’s suppose to be and popping back in when I close my mouth. Sometimes it won’t go back and I have to push my jaw more out to unlock it so it can slide back in to where it goes. It’s fun to freak my friends and family out though because you can literally see the it popping out and seeing me push it farther out to unlock it and put it back in place is... well crazy looking haha. I’ve had it so long that when I started getting stomach problems and pain everywhere that it never occurred to me to tell my doctors about my jaw. It may have helped me get diagnosed quicker had I mentioned it.

Since my original post, I have started Amitripylin 50mg a day and  Gabapentin 100mg 3 x a day. I’ve been on them for two days now and it has helped the pain but they make me awfully tired and a bit nauseous. I’m hoping I will just get adjusted to them and maybe figure out a better time schedule for them. Working out the kinks I guess you could say. But I’m not crying in pain anymore, and the sleepiness is worth it. I was literally crying from the pain for a straight week. Coming from someone who gave birth naturally 3 times and not crying once... that’s a lot of pain I’d have to be in to be crying. I also have duodenitis and am on Dexilant once a day for that as well. It’s a lot of medicine for me to take on all at once but if I can function better then it’s worth it.

Oh and I forgot to say, I live in a small town and the rheumatologist only comes once every two weeks so I haven’t officially been diagnosed with fibromyalgia but my GI doctor thinks it must be that or some other nerve issue and he’s the one that prescribed me my medication for the time being in order to help me find some kind of relief until I can see the proper doctor. Sucks living in a small town. It’s taken me 5 years to find out what my problems where, all thanks to my GI doctor and the fact that I basically went so far downhill that I ended up in horrible pain and ugly crying to my GI doctor about the pain lol. But as long as I get help now, that’s what matters! It just sucks being 29 and on so many meds!!!! I felt like I was insane for awhile, only being 24 when I started getting mild pain and getting worse throughout the years. I just kept thinking how can I feel like I’m 80 when I’m so young?!?!? It’s hard to cope with it some days.
