I had my cast removed on the 24th and I was placed in an air cast ankle Brace and told to walk and weight bear as tolerated it's going on the 3rd day now and I have unimaginable heel pain has anyone else experienced this when they 1st started walking again I'm getting a little discouraged because I have no pain anywhere else but my heel I'm still using to crutches to walk because to fully weight bear on my right heel is so painful any tips on how to deal with this pain or to treat it I'm stretching and doing as many exercises as I can but every morning I wake up with the heel pain and it stays consistent throughout the whole day-and-night !thanks

Hi Rebecca! So exciting to get a boot and be told you can start putting weight on it only to be disappointed in the realization of how hard it’s going to be. At least that’s how it was for me! I was moved to my boot 2 weeks ago today and basically given the same instructions as you. Let pain be my guide. There have been all kinds of weird feelings and pains. I have only started full weight bearing about 4 days ago. And that’s only for little short distances so far. I take my crutches with me everywhere because I know the distance I can go on my own is limited. The last 2 weeks have brought a lot of progress but it IS slow going. I have had pains in places that I didn’t think made sense but...If the pain in your heel is bad enough that you really feel there is something wrong then call your dr and ask about it. Never hurts to ask. Beat of luck to you. You’ll get there.

Hi Jennifer! that's exciting you can walk!! I can't wait to say that lol or to walk correctly anyway I did give the doctor a call and the he never called me back so I'm just taking ibuprofen and dealing with the pain I guess I did think this was gonna be easier than it actually is but I'm going to stay positive and keep going ! Speedy recovery to you!

Def stay positive!!!! I got a surprise at the doctor today. He gave me a stiff ankle brace. Doesn’t let your ankle move as much as a regular brace but is small and light like one. He told me I could start transitioning to it as pain allows. The nurse put it on me and asked me to stand  to make sure it was offering and support. I started crying. It didn’t hurt. It had just been 7 weeks since I had stood with both feet on the floor like that and I was overwhelmed with surprise emotion. I tried it out after work today and it turns out this is going to be a very fast transition. I have less pain in the brace than the boot at this point. Wouldn’t have been able to say that a week ago but I’ve noticed each week I make huge progress. Hang in there! This stage may go quicker than expected. Just listen to your body and don’t push it when it hurts but keep slowly working on moving forward. I hope you are as pleasantly surprised as me!
